GiLei's is my new favorite breakfast spot on Roatan. - I came yesterday and had a dine-in breakfast (Mariel's Breakfast Special) and a take-out meal for my fiancée (Skinny Avocado Toast). Both were SO delicious, and the service SO pleasant, that I'm here again today getting the exact same thing! Beyond the food & service, the small dining room - very cafe-style - is not fancy, but very cute and comfortable.
Though avocado toast is (usually) not unique, GiLei's kicks it up a notch. They use an english muffin for toast, then top it with avocado mash, arugula, poached egg, shaved parmesan, and cracked pepper. Yum!
And, Mariel's Breakfast Special?.....Let me turn you on to something totally unique: Sautéed cabbage mixed with strips of breakfast patty sausage and flavorful seasoning including a judicious amount of mutton pepper. This is served with two eggs - prepared as you wish (tip: get them over easy and mix with the sausage 'slaw') and toast. (I am eating Keto, and they gladly substituted slice tomatoes or avocado for the toast.) The mutton pepper provides a mild, full-mouth heat that is flavorful and doesn't burn. - You gotta try this!
(Note: They serve breakfast all day.)
Check out GiLei's.....You'll be...
Read moreI would recommend ANYONE to try this place FIRST before the rest of the island restaurants. After almost a month in the island, I have never had such a nice service as I had here. Jessica and Luisa have such a beautiful energy that gets you as soon as you put your foot in GiLei's. The same vibrant and delightful energy came in our plates... I ordered the thin avocado toast and my husband had a mollete, both AMAZING. We both had a healthy non-sugared green smoothie, freshly prepared. We visited on a Friday, which seems to be the perfect day to try their pastry. Fridays is 2x1 pastry so we tried the German chocolate cake and cinnamon roll. Although I was not a fan of either, I think they a great with their freshly prepared food. We also had cappuccino and black coffee, both fresh...
Read moreThe waitress didn’t write down our order and it ended up being wrong but it worked out. What we ordered - 2 skillets 1 French toast What we got - 1 skillet 1 omelette 1 French toast. My bf ended up just eating the omelette and I will say it was bigger than the skillet. Sadly my skillet was oily & greasy. The potatoes weren’t that good. I had better elsewhere on the island. The iced coffee was good I got a vanilla coffee with chocolate drizzle. I would come back but wouldn’t get the skillet. It’s very nice inside and the...
