Rétisas Vendéglő — Restaurant in Budapest

I’ve known this place since the 90s (back then they were at a different location, near the Kelenföld railway station). It used to be known as the hidden gem of the area - hopefully these days it’s not so hidden any more.

They have a reasonably small menu of traditional Hungarian feast day cuisine. Food here is rich, heavy and delicious, and there’s a lot of it. Their “mátrai borzas” (their specialty; a pork chop fried in grated potatoes, with sour cream and cheese) and “hagymás rostélyos” (sirloin steak with a mountain of fried onions) are second to none. They make a great “velős-csülkos pacal” (a stew of bone marrow, pork knuckles and cow stomach) and “kakashere pörkölt” (rooster testicle stew) as well.

Don’t be afraid of ordering a shot of Unicum (a herbal bitter) with your beer or “fröccs”, it helps with digestion!

We now live in a different country, but when we visit our family at home, eating here is always a high point of the trip. Don’t pass...

As the only asian diner in the restaurant, I always feel welcomed at this restaurant despite the language barriers. It is located slightly far away from city centre but it is right at the bus stop at bus number 58, so it is easily accessible through public transport. The serving time might be slightly long, but the food quality is amazing and it comes at better price compared to those in city centre. Quite worth the trip that we actually went back twice for dinner. Will definitely come back...

A második látogatásunkat írom le, mert pár hónappal korábban az elsőnél már az ajtóban jelezték, hogy 40 percet kellene várni. Megköszöntük, eljöttünk azzal, hogy "majd legközelebb".

Íme a legközelebb.

Italrendelés: 1 áfonyás-citromos alkoholmentes sör, 1 sportfröccs, 5dl szóda Érkezett: sportfröccs, mentes víz

Semmi baj, rendbe tettük a dolgokat, addig is készülnek az ételek, gondoltuk. Rosszul gondoltuk.

Ételrendelés: a 50 perc várakozás betett a terhes páromnak, a mosdóból visszafele hozott csipszet, ami gyorssegélynek valamennyire megfelelt. 20 perccel ezután (tehát több mint egy órával az érkezésünk után) a pincér megkérdezte, hogy pontosan mit is rendeltünk, "mert a konyhában kicsit összekavarodtak a dolgok". A beazonosíthatóság kedvéért a tányér főelemét elég mondani, gondoltuk. Majd 5 perccel később visszajött, hogy "milyen körettel kértük". Ezen a ponton vált biztossá, hogy még el sem kezdték csinálni, semmiféle összekeverés nem történt. De azért rákérdeztünk, hogy "ugye nem most kezdik el" Válasz: "Dehogy is, már készül, maximum (!) 8 perc." Legalább akkor ne hazudjon, hogy már készül!
