The pub it is suppose to look like a ship. You can't see or observe this from close distance but if you want to see "the ship" you have to cross the street and look at the pub from the other side of the road, from the sidewalk.
Even at the entrance there is an anchor, a big one, warning you that you are going to enter a ship, an old model ship, made of wood. There is a terrace, outside, and there are a set of stairs that goes inside the restaurant. Of course, the stairs are like the ones on a ship.
Inside, there are a lot of tables and the space is divided in different small rooms, on different levels suggesting the decks of a ship. The interior is very nice decorated, all the things are arranged with good taste inspiring the interior of a ship.
And there is a PIRATE! He is hanging on a pillar inside the restaurant. This is the reason I supposed it is a pirate ship. Or is a sailor, a good fellow, I don't know, I let you find out.
There is also a huge bar with hundreds of bottles of all kind of drinks - as usually is on a "bad asses" ship. There is a small exposition of different kind of bottles of wine, I think. I think it is enough with description. I let you find out yourselves the other details, but you have to go there, for this to happened.
The food. The food is VERY, VERY, VERY, TASTY!!! I had a goulash and I can say that it was one of the best goulash I have ever eaten in all the world - ok, the goulash from other countries doesn't count.
The portions are huge but if you cannot eat everything they have some small boxes and they put the remaining food in them so you can take it with you at home. So, when you order, I recommend you to order only one side and depending the capacity and the volume of your stomach to order something else - the second side or the desert.
The service is very prompt and quick. We expected about 10 or 15 minutes till our food was on the table. The drinks are also very good, especially the non-alcoholic ones - the lemonade.
The prices are at average value and be aware that the service is included so you have no free will to refuse tipping the waiter. But I think is not the case because the service was very good. And not to forget, the waiters are speaking english.
One more thing - the toilets are very clean and they are under the deck. 😃
So, I definitely recommend this restaurant - pub - and if you ever go in Debrecen don't missed it! Deserve every...
Read moreWe’ve visited this place for a weekend lunch. The place has classic design, it looks like you’re on an 18th century ship or boat. They’ve got a huge selection of food so it takes a bit of time to look through it. I checked the menu one night before to save some time and on the website they also have pictures of the food which makes it easier to choose. The majority of the plates are traditional, Hungarian food so don’t expect anything hipster-likes dishes. The portions are pretty big and the quality is good as well. I went with the crispy duck with smashed sweet potato and purple cabbage - it was excellent! The others were also happy with their orders. I’ve also tried the cottage cheese dumpling which has 4 dumplings so it’s plenty for two people and tasted great as well. The service and staff was professional although the waiters are a bit cold and not very smiling. We needed to wait quite a bit for the food to arrive but everything was really fresh so I didn’t mind waiting. The prices are okay as well, they’re more in the upper range but in return you get quality. Overall, I’d recommend this place if you’re looking for a nice place to have lunch/dinner. The place gets pretty busy so I’d advise you to make a reservation before going to...
Read moreRude staff , good food. The meal was good and I was actually planning to come again for my birthday celebration. However, it was very disappointing to see that the staff was so rude. After our meal, I signalled to the staff that I would like to pay and the person waiting our table came with the bill .I asked him that we would like to pay separately and he was extremely rude in pointing rather roughly at the bill and said you see this, this is what you have to pay. He could have easily said that it was not possible to split I had asked very politely but he was rude for no reason and surely ruined the complete dinner experience of coming there. When you serve good food is it so difficult to speak politely...
