Lighthouse Restaurant — Restaurant in Akraneskaupstaður

After landing on flight from JFK and going to a hot spring, we were starving. We drove out to Akrane because I wanted to see the beached whalers and the (actual) lighthouse. We spotted this place on the way into town and decided to give it a shot. We got a pizza, some wings, and the fish and chips. I was not very hopeful for the wings, but I can never not order them wherever I go. The wings were sooo good.Crispy and sauced like wings should be. The pizza was our second favorite pizza of our entire trip, but I must also say it was half the price so technically it should be the winner. Fish and chips were served in a healthy portion and battered just right. Although I cannot remember her name our waitress was a wonderful host. She was attentive the duration of our visit and entertained all my questions about the country, where to go, and what to eat. She recommended several places to visit and even marked them on the map in my phone. The only thing they could do different is spruce up the interior of the place and make it a little more inviting, but that is just me being nit picky. Let me paint a picture of my day for you to truly understand how this experience was the downfall of a perfect day. We woke up rested, we shopped, went to a spa, went to a park, met two of the kindness people, and stayed in a glass cabin and got to see the northern lights. In the middle of this perfect day, we went to the Lighthouse Restaurant. After seeing a 4.5/5 I didn’t read much into the reviews. For every other reviewer out there, let me ask you, how?! I wish we would have just eaten from the grocery store. We ordered mozzarella sticks, that came out with salsa. Onion rings with no onion in them. The fish and chips…. how do you not have fresh fish in Iceland? This felt like it came straight from a box in the freezer. Great experience overall. Got to meet the owner. Very humble, nice woman. everything from the atmosphere to the food was amazing. She was accommodating and told us her life passion was cooking. Loved the food, the music, and the atmosphere. I didn’t read the reviews until we got back to our cabin to do our own review. I think different people expect different things. If you have an issue with anything here (or anywhere), say something. No one and nothing is perfect every time. I’m Sure she will make it right. Thank you for the great food.
