I was told to book early for my stay in Iceland or I wouldn't get a room and they would be expensive regardless of "quality". I planned to drive the ring and couldn't risk not having a room. Online I found very little 3.5 months before I left the USA. I wanted to be near Myvatn and this hotel was about it. From their website I thought it would be the coolest hotel ever. During the school year it's used by students, so the rooms were dorm rooms without any fringe. Reception people were nice enough. The "happy hour" was half off the bottle beer and wine which normally was way expensive so half price it was still crazy. The 9pm movie shown for free about Iceland was good enough, especially when there are no TVs or other entertainment. There is a gas station with food and TV up on the main road; I didn't try it. Breakfast was a good buffet, at least it had potential, but the one man staff wasn't keeping an eye and many items including coffee cups were not restocked making for repeated door knocking to get his attention. It was ok for the one night, at least, like most of Iceland,...

Read moreThe hotel was beautiful. The real surprise was the dinner. Incredibly tasty breaded chicken with carmelized apples for my husband. Arctic char garnished with dill, asparagus, and on the side were small scoops of cod mousse, pured peas, and carrots. Dessert was lucious...apple cake with a 2 scoops of ice cream for him. Ice cream 3 flavors with fresh berries and small dark chocolate wafer candies for me. With 2 glasses of wine it came to $135 US. Worth every penny! (And this from 2 people who are not food fussy). Our room was clean, neat, large, very comfortable, and quiet. Two twin beds next to each other, a desk, a closet with drawers and a hanging section and a shelf for luggage. The bathroom was good. The setting is away from the road and peaceful. The breakfast had the usual cheese and cold cuts, bread, and cereal, but it also had scrambled eggs, bacon, and mini sausages. We stayed 2 nights and that gave us time to whale watch in Húsavik and explore the lava formations near Lake Myvatn....
