We had heard quite great things about this place and have been wanting to try it for many years. My partner is a professional chef and we are both foodies. We finally went with high exceptions but were a bit disappointed overall. Most of the wait staff seemed quite annoyed and not in a friendly mood. When we arrived with our reservation, there were quite a few empty tables and we were seating on the interior, we kindly asked if we would be allowed to sit by the window but were told that we had to book that…. (We checked the booking online again and you cannot…) the service was quite slow and cold. Some dishes we had a lot of faith in were cold or not as good we had heard them to be. There was not really much of an experience in atmosphere, but fairly priced and crazy to be eating sushi in the middle nowhere Iceland! All that being said, we will give it another chance, we are hopping this was just an off night. I want to give this place 5...

Honestly a bit of a let down. Restaurant wasn’t very busy on Sunday night. I want to start off by saying the quality of fish was good at the restaurant. We order the 12 sashimi 10 nagiri, chicken karage, and a miso glazed perch.

My wife liked the Miso glazed perch, it was a very small dish with a bit of kimchi. Chicken karage was soggy not krispy at all. Both small plates came quickly.

We had asked the waitress if it was possible to get the chefs choice sashimi/nagiri with out any scallop or any bivalve. She said it wouldn’t be a problem, but our dish had scallop sashimi and a scallop nigiri. I’ve gotten very sick from raw scallops in the past so I have a strong aversion to them. We didn’t want to complain so we just ate around it. If you have any food intolerance make sure to remind the waitress twice before ordering. I Can’t give this restaurant anymore...

I'm glad that I had the opportunity to dine here just before they closed for the season. It was understandably very busy and we only just secured a table.

It was the tastiest sushi I have ever tried, by far. Really delicious! We had the Arctic char maki as well as the Crunchy kamaboko maki - though my personal favorite was the latter. I also tried their chicken karaage starter and it was lovely and crunchy - great texture and flavour. The seaweed salad was equally as good, very refreshing! It's also worth trying their Japanese whiskey ("nikka"), which is very strong but also very unique and delicious in its own right.

Service was also great throughout the evening. Staff were super - friendly, attentive, and professional.

Easily the best food we tried in Seydisfjordur! The other dining spots don't even come close (and don't get me started on Aldan...

My husband and I had a delicious and romantic dinner at Norð Austur last week! We had reservations and they seated us at a table by the window overlooking the harbor. It was the perfect spot for the 2+ hour omakase (chef's tasting) experience, because we could watch the light change on the mountains and also the ferry to Denmark get ready to sail! The chef's tasting was a great way to go: we got to try ten dishes including dessert, and we also opted for the drink pairings. It was spendy, but worth it to try so many different dishes and local ingredients. I particularly loved the kimchi, fried capelins, and ceviche, though we didn't have a bad bite. Our waitress was very hospitable and asked our thoughts on each dish. I highly recommend this place!
