Recently we had tried the famous tribal cuisine 'Bamboo Chicken' from the Araku Valley of Andhra Pradesh, locally known as the 'Bongulo Chicken'. Its very different from the one we generally find in the restuarants in the city, as its made the authentic tribal way without oil and they use local herbs, etc and they make the chicken on wood or coal flames and not on the gas burner. Frankly speaking if you expect too much about the taste then you will be disappointed and its not that tasty like how its hyped about in general. You can give it a try if you want to try something different while you are in the valley but personally I still liked their kebabs better than the bamboo chicken. Not at all worth it....tasted the bamboo chicken ....it's just some aachi masala mixed with chicken nd cooked in bamboo ...spicy nd less salt..little chicken raw smell.. no oil ... Bamboo chicken: Taste wise 1/5 or zerošŸ˜…šŸ˜…šŸ˜… Quantity 1/2kg Price 300₹ for 1/2 kg Chicken kebab: One bamboo stick has 4 medium pieces around 100-150gm(total 4 pieces).. has sour, smokey and spicy taste.. Taste 4/5 Quantity 4/5 Price 30₹ for one stick(4 medium pieces) So my suggestion is better try chicken kebab stick grilled on fire instead of bamboo chicken..former has better taste than later... Two stars for chicken kebab Zero stars for bamboo chicken Edit: had stomach upset for entire family who ate here...not recommended for those who have weak stomach

Since we were in Araku valley and before visiting there we heared lots about Bamboo chicken that they cooked it in bamboo with local herbs and without using oil and water and cook on open coal fire. Finally we had decided to try this special local dish and reached at one of Aadhivasi shops and ordered Kabab and half kg bamboo chicken that we got 250/ half kg. And yes taste was really different and unique but it was spicy and hot. Moreover in late evening we took one bamboo for snacks and after 2 hours when we opened, we found the temperature of food was still same. And yes i would suggest try atleast once while you are around in valley.

Bamboo Chicken is a traditional tribal cuisine of Araku Valley Tribals near Vizag, locally known as ā€œBongulo Chickenā€. Bamboo Chicken is cooked inside a piece of green bamboo stalk without oil, making it healthy but delicious. The Bamboo chicken recipe has been passed from one generation to next and most of t he herbs used are found locally giving it a unique taste. How Bamboo Chicken is made:Ā Ā Bamboo stalks are chopped in such a way that it acts like a deep cylindrical container. Ā Chicken pieces marinated with local herbs and spices are stuffed inside the stalk and the open end is blocked by putting a bunch of plantain like leafs. The arrangement is then placed on open flames made of wood and cooked till the whole bamboo becomes black with cracks on its surface, releasing the aroma making you impatient and urging the cook to hurry up. TheĀ Bamboo ChickenĀ was yummy and very different from what they usually serve in modern Hyderabad restaurants. So if you want the real taste of Bamboo Chicken, try it in Araku Valley. I don’t think it is available in its true flavor anywhere else. Price 250gm chicken -rs 130 only 500gm chicken -rs 260only 1kg...
