After waiting for a long time to tick it off my go-to list, I finally visited Dakshin. A small South Indian restaurant, located in the newly developed chowpaty in Scheme No. 140. I went there with my family, for a Sunday lunch.
To my surprise, the restaurant was quite empty. Only one table was occupied and the kitchen also seemed closed. While I was rethinking visiting Dakshin, a server came to our assistance.
I quickly placed my order from their elaborate menu. I was hoping that their will be some pure South Indian preparations but they serve more of fusion preparations like cheese dosa.
Keeping the order simple and safe to try, we ordered for masala dosa and onion uttappam.
The Dosa wasn't crisp but it had a nice taste. The masala was mildly flavoured and the sambhar was quite watery in consistency with big chunks of veggies in it. Along with it came tomato chutney and coconut chutney. Out of the two, I liked the coconut chutney more.
The overall taste of the food was ok. It did not feel authentic though but for a once in a while visit, it was ok. The service is slow as there's only one guy managing billing, orders and serving.
My search for tasteful South Indian food in Indore is still on.
For Dakshin, I'll only say that the overall experience was ok. I am not sure if I'll go back again.

Read moreWorst South Indian eatry experience ever. NEGATIVE Star Rating would be apt.. They are only there for money making. Here is why:
We visited them on a Sunday and they were unable to serve a cooked meal, let alone a well-cooked meal. Their sambar was unpalatable, to say the least. So when we complained to a lady at reception, she said in the morning it was good but since then she hasn't tasted anything. Also, she complained that there is a lot of rush, so she cannot ask the chef to be careful. Now my only question to her was, why don't you say that before a person is ordering. You can politely decline new customers by saying: today we have enough orders to cater to and we are not accepting any further orders.
But no, why would they? They only care about money making, even if it's at the expense...
