Visited this place recently. Heard a lot about it. Decided to give this place a try. Winter morning. The timing is mentioned from 7 AM to 9 AM which I am sure is not right. I heard somewhere else in a interview it remains open till 11 AM. I reached around 9:30 AM,less crowded. Ordered a plate of 3 bara 1 Aloochop and a bowl of ghughuni.Baras and ghughuni were hot and also frying was going on. Rabi bhai sitting at cash counter feeling like sleepy. The plate cost Rs 30,decent for the price. Rs 5 for a piece of bara and Aloochop while ghughuni bowl was Rs 10. Taste wise bara was soft and crunchy, quite good. The other famous bara of kalia bhai which has now more suji because of the texture and crunchiness and if you have that bara reheated using microwave that might get hard. But rabi bhai bara remains soft even after reheating. Ghughuni bowl for the price is well justified. Thick ghughuni with lots of matars and coriander leaves. Rabib bhain bara has onions in decent quantity and soft too. The hype about this place proved to be true although myself never believe or visit hyped places like people flock there in large numbers and even wait in.line or queue. I just take my own time to decide whether visit or not. The best nearby landmark is unit 6 kalyan mandap, just 100 meter or less from it. This shop is near a small square or junction with 4 roads leading to different directions. If you face the shop, the left side road leads to capital hospital side, right side to back lane of bhubaneswar club, front road to the side leds to Surya nagar area and raj bhawan and back road leads kalyan mandap area. Best way is to come from power house square towards raj bhawan, crossing the raj bhawan square and moving straight and when you reach a square 50 meter ahead then either take left and then take a right turn into the shop lane or move straight and take a left turn towards the shop lane. I forgot to taste the chennapoda which I heard is also good and other sweets. Good experience.
P:S- Recent visit around 10 AM. The bara have become smaller in size, more onions in bara than biri. So,one can only taste onions in that rather than biri. Ghughuni has become thin with less matar. Both bara and ghughuni taste has declined. Not so tasteful as it used to before. Also Online payment not accepted,so be sure...
Read moreDuring my short trip to Bhubaneshvar, I was trying to find about local places to eat and got to know about this. One day, didn't find the place open in afternoon so I believe it is open only for breakfast. What you will get here is freshly made vada, idli, pakoda. And sweets. I tried to tatse all and was so full. Rabi sir gave me to taste one gulab jamun for free. It was very different in shape and taste. The vara(pronouned vada in south indian) was amazing. If you want a clean place you might not be comfortable here. Ther person cutting the onion didn't look clean and so the place where he was cutting it. Outside the shop also, the place to wash hands or to keep plates was not hygienic. Go there to taste some least marketed but amazing tasting sweets and breakfast delicacies. You might see Rabi sir frying the vara where he uses his bare hand to turn the vara in the hot oil kadai. Something...
Read moreThis eatery is over-hyped...!! The Bara tastes just normal...rather bit fat instead of being light and rounded thin... You can't really call it tasty..! It is all rightish type
the Aluchop is decent but the potato is not mashed properly...you will find big pieces of potato unmashed..the spice quotient is all right in Aluchop.. It is slightly better than Bara taste wise..!!
Price is totally ok given the size..it Rs 5/- each Bara and Aluchop
The ghuguni is just of normal taste..nothing really super tasty as it's hyped..!!.. though it's unlimited and not charged if you ask for extra..!!
The gulab jamun is of rs 10/- and is really the only thing I found reasonable and worth having..!! very soft and warm..!
I would never really go back there again..!! It is not bad I'm saying, but it is over hyped and nothing...
