Food was good, service was good and atmosphere obviously was good. So why the one star. Read on:
Cost: For a beach shack, they are way over priced. In fact every shack on Cavelossim beach is way over priced. You will save money by eating at a "Upper Deck" in Radisson or "Seagull" in Novatel Dona Sylvia. To compare, a cup of tea at Delhi Airport costs Rs. 155/- and at this beach shack it will set you back by Rs. 180/-. Same goes for other food items. Sea food particularly is more costly and one would be better served at a restaurants in cities of North India.
Racial Profiling of Indians: This is another thing I found common in most beach shacks including this one. David, my money is as good as the foreigner next to me. He may come twice but I will come back several times and so would most other Indians. One first day, they didn't even gave us the beach chairs on the front but gave us one in the second row citing that the first row were reserved. I had to remind the server that I will probably be buying more than these foreigners and that is how I got the first row chairs after I had ordered 2 beers. And I saw them charging a couple 500/- just for the beach chairs and even they were made to sit on third row.
I was there for 12 days. On third day I asked for the discount having seen how costly the items were. The request was refused. I got a discount of 20% from another shack on the beach and next 9 days we were their guest. David, you lost at least Rs. 30,000 in billing. Incidentally I got 35% discount from Upper Deck and 30% from Seagull. These two and Mike's were the place where we took our dinner.
I saw a couple with suitcases come to your shack. Obviously they had checked out of their hotel and wanted to have a last beer on beach or may be they had time to kill. Your staff refused to cater to them and made them go to another shack saying that they are there just to kill time. That is a completely wrong behavior.
My suggestion to you David, and other shack owners is that stop taking tourists for granted and reduce rates. You are a shack not a five star fine dining restaurant. I hope you will work on these pointers and I'll see some improvement when I visit again next year. At the current rates that Goa is charging the tourists, I find that I can take a vacation in Dubai or Singapore or Malaysia or Thailand or any other 15 countries and still save money. And most Indians agree with me. Empty shacks tell their...

I said ok take 750 Rs including bed (550 for Food and 200 bed), then that employee come to me and said take your 200 back, then I said I do not want 200 Rs, ask your owner he should know how to speak to customer and gave back 200 Rs to him. I found this place shows racism towards Indians because I saw these people speak with lot of politeness with Foreigners, I feel they do not need Indians and I REQUEST TO EVERY INDIAN DO...
Read moreI went to Cavelossim beach with family on 26th Dec 2021. I visit Goa every alternate year and going by past experience, sun beds are complimentary if one orders food and/or drinks from a beach shack. However, Islandish beach shack charged us Rs. 400 for 2 beds inspite of ordering food & drinks. When I asked about it, I was told (rudely) that bill amount should be more than Rs. 1000. This was not informed to us earlier.
The vegetarian food we ordered was average and nothing to boast about. Best to avoid Islandish. There are better shacks just a few metres away which offer great food and...
