HOSA - means new or so i read on their menu. Highly recommended by locals so 4 of us headed for dinner in the peak season of december & were sceptical to get a table without reservation but we were lucky & were not disappointed! But a valet service was missing at night. Not an issue as parking lot was just about 100 mtrs away! In a party of 4 - 2 were vegetarians & 2 were non vegetarians. With help & recommendations from server we placed are orders.. vegetarians - 2 starter & a main Non vegetarians - 1 starter & a main One cocktail & one mocktail
1st came the cocktail - had too much ice & too little ice - no issues - server sorted it ASAP - we are happy
Mocktail- server got a taster serving & correctly so the mocktail was switched.
Then came all the vegetarian dishes one after the other . Non vegetarian ones were sitting so vegetarians offered their portions which reluctantly were tasted by non-vegetarian - coz how do 4 friends who are out fir meal together- 2 keep eating & 2 keep staring at their face?
Finally came the non-vegetarian mutton pepper ghee roast- and boy what a beautiful dish! Well cooked, flavourful - ufff maza hee aa gaya.. Then came chicken and first bite - turned out to be the most insipid preparation ever! Pointed it out the server - and promptly he agreed to have it fixed. Came saying is cancelling that dish & getting us a chicken gher roast - one of us wanted prawns & asked for that on which he said the price of two dishes is different so that can't be switched - on being pointed we will pay for prawns he rushed back to kitchen n back & said the chicken dish is already under production & anyway prawns ain't available nonetheless we agreed to the chicken ghee roast as server was making real effort to make it work for us.. Everyones meal was over & we were waiting when Appam arrived on our table that we had ordered extra with the chicken dish. But the chicken dish was not sight. After a really long wait came the dish- lo & behold it's was prawn dish! ( remember no prawns- chicken is being prepared spiel) The dish was average.
Point of this ling review is Hosa is a fine dine place or a cafe or roadside joint - certain level of service is expected.
When 4 friends step out for meal - all intend to eat together NOT one after the other dishes can't be served after long gaps or 1st just vegetarians Then non vegetarians ! Looked like they were under staffed in kitchen - but then this is peak season of Dec in goa!
Dishes need to come in tandem not random order. Dish came - Appam late, Appam came - dish missing! Bill took forever to come & swipe machine another 15 mins (felt like decade though) Finally when we showed our displeasure at the experience, hostess mentioned they are under staffed! So dear HOSA management please don't bother about investing in marketing & free meals to bloggers to generate hype but in staff so that your PAYING customer is convinced of your service.
Moral of the review: Give it a miss- way too many restaurants in goa to splurge/burn...
Read moreWe’d been to @hosaindia before and were suitably impressed. This time @munchatty and me were joined by @nehasumitran too. And were we fascinated with what we had! . Let me start with the cocktails first. There was “The Petrichor “ which took my breath away. I was drawn to this drink repeatedly and I picked up a saffron and spice mix cordial with vetiver infused whisky. And this was topped with beetroot foam, which all together gave me a fresh earthy taste in each sip. Spectacular! . Then there was the “Cloud 9”. A tequila based cocktail with cucumber and melon cordial. This was topped with ginger and mint foam. A crisp and refreshing touch in each sip. Extravagant! . We then started with Pathrode, a heritage delicacy from coastal Karnataka, which is steamed colacasia leaf rolls layered with spiced lentil batter, steamed and pan fried served along with banana peel chutney. This was followed with Railway Onion Samosas - crunchy onion-filled samosas flavoured with garam masala served with a sweet-spicy tomato mustard relish. Outstanding! . The mains were a treat beyond compare. We started with Bun and Stew. A Hosa take on traditional bread and stew from kerala, this was seasonal vegetables cooked in spiced coconut milk served along with a soft bun. The Heerekayi Menthya Saaru with Coriander Rice was stuffed ridge gourd simmered in a fenugreek broth, served with fragrant coriander rice. Both of these were vegetarian dishes. . This was followed was Mutton Paya with Idiyappams. A rich, slow-cooked stew made from mutton trotters, slow-brewed for depth. This was served with delicate rice string hoppers. . And eventually, there was the Garelu Chicken Curry. a classic vada chicken curry from Andhra a meal in itself the dish has crispy lentil vada soaked in rustic chicken gravy made of coconut and poppy seeds . And to end this beautiful meal was the Jigarthanda — the Hosa take on Madurai’s iconic drink. A blend of warm cotton seed milk with nannari root syrup, topped with a generous scoop of caramel ice cream.
Thanks much @chef_hrrao and @thisisstellaratti for this...
