Some restaurants in mega-cities serve delectable food that comes with a heavy bill for the finest quality ingredients used and cooked in an avant-garde way with meticulous attention to detail. Not all restaurants fly in this category given the pressure and standards people expect from such restaurants. @Mango which stands as one of the most luxurious in Bodakdev, Ahemdabad, is one restaurant that tries to fly high but with a handful of compromises. After much dedicated research on the fanciest restaurants ruling the city, I locked my money on @Mango for my lunch. An entire plot and building for itself @mango is a restaurant with a garden and a fancy building that has some of the most alluring furnishings that are absolutely pleasing to the eyes. At first sight, it was quite evident that it is a restaurant to dress up with a vibrant brooch and to go on for a romantic date or to celebrate an anniversary. I was seated outside which was equally romantic, barring the incomplete set of cutlery and lack of napkins. Nevertheless, it still was very promising. I fastidiously studied the entire menu before and what was hard was that the vastness and fecundity of flavoursome dishes supersedes the menu given. Therefore, I decided to ask the waiter himself to suggest the best for me to try. I expected them to understand that I wanted to be hit by their best shot but they didn’t quite get it and it was quite evident that the waiters didn’t possess any deep understanding or great knowledge of the menu which was a bit disappointing. In the end, I ended up ordering Habanero Paneer Tikka and Baked Casanova. The Habanero Paneer Tikka landed on my table in 8 full squares, generously dressed in a neon-red coloured marination, slightly charred edges with petals of grilled veggies, and salty and crispy parmesan tuiles. The dish was a gradual dive into an intoxicatingly delicious smoke surrounded with a melodious Habanero heat rounding off the palate cordantly, bits of herbs and vegetables cutting with freshness and giving a new texture to the palate and the parmesan tuiles giving a salty kick and a balance of texture to a proffer dish, tantalising all the senses gracefully. However, it didn’t have the charismatic and evocative flavour of Mexican cuisine that it had promised. Nevertheless, it was an eclectic appetiser, accentuated by the use of unconventional ingredients. The baked Casanova was deep fried pizza balls cooked in pomodoro sauce and mozzarella. The dish sounded benevolent and it came to my table on a skillet, fit for a couple. It wasn’t sophisticated or progressive rather, it was headed in the way of being a classic Italian dish but what keeps it from being delicious is the lack of harmony and balance. The salt in the sauce, the pizza balls, the vegetables, and the cheese, dials the saltiness ridiculously high suppressing all other flavours. The freshness and aroma were just missing. The pizza balls were wonderfully tender but they were just salty deep-fried ricotta globules with specks of salty herbs. The heavy dish killed the appetite for a dessert at the end. With a palate hurt by the saltiness of the Casanova, my mouth desperately craved for a mouthful of a sugary refresher, but my stomach became spaceless and I settled for a mocktail instead. I ordered a cold pressed orange and sugarcane swizzle with a lemon squeeze. It was a charming refresher. However, the ratio of citrus and sugarcane was off making it a bit treacly. The service was relatively commendable. The servers do keep a close eye on whose plates are emptying and come over to help them serve food on to their plate immediately. On an overall note, dining @mango was a lovely experience but given its sturdy reputation and fanciness it requires a bit more of fine tuning when it comes to creating dishes, especially when it’s just one customer, pay assiduous attention to balance of flavours and textures, and waiters having a better depth of knowledge when it comes to making suggestions. Hope remains for this luxurious gem to not go down the style over...

Our culinary journey began with the delightful Masala Papad Platter, a perfect way to whet our appetites. Each dish that followed surpassed the last in terms of flavor and presentation. The most delicious food award easily goes to their Vietnamese soup, with dumplings that were melt-in-your-mouth divine. The Jug of Mojito and Spice Life mocktails were equally outstanding, offering refreshing and unique flavor profiles.
While the Hotch-Potch Bruschetta was tasty, it didn't quite justify its price tag. However, the Paneer Methi Garlic was a clear winner, bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. The Garlic and Butter Naan, while good, were comparable to what you'd find at most restaurants.
To end the evening on a perfect note, the Laccha Rabdi was an absolute revelation. It was easily one of the best I've ever tasted, leaving a lasting impression on our taste buds. The Hopper Poppers from the kids' menu were a hit with our child and kept them entertained throughout the meal.
While the overall cost may be slightly higher than some other options, it's certainly worth the splurge for a peaceful and delightful dining experience, ideal for families or a romantic date night. The exceptional service, delicious food, and enchanting ambiance combine to create a truly memorable evening at Mango Hotel.
