The House of Makeba Experience:
This was my third visit to The House of Makeba and it is safe to say they have consistently delivered good food with good service. The reason I am iterating this experience is because this time around we had couple of kids with us and they seemed to have enjoyed it. Going in a group these days especially when with kids would mean that their preference be given the utmost importance and very rightly so! Nothing can make a set of parents happier when they see their children enjoying a meal together with them.
Started our meal with Veg Mexican Platter that had Nachos with Salsa, Cheese Balls with Sour Cream, Pineapple Salsa, Hard Shell Tacos, Cheese Sauce and a salad. This was enjoyed more by adults than the kids that it was ordered for. Pineapple Salsa and Red Salsa stood out.
Cheesy Garlic Fries were asked to be extra crisp and boy the heard us! The coriander at the top and finely chopped sautéed garlic made it tad bit more likeable.
Veg Aglio E Olio was next and it stayed true to its name. Spaghetti with fresh garlic, olive oil and some cheese makes up for a soul food level dish. The Garlic Bread that came with the Pasta made us order an additional portion of it without any extra seasonings at the top (chilli flakes, oregano). Now, Garlic Bread is such a dish that is enjoyed by adults and kids alike, here too, it was enjoyed by everyone equally.
For the non vegetarians on the table we ordered Assorted Platter that had Seekh Kebabs, Chicken Tikka Kebabs, Malai Chicken Tikka, Lasooni Tikka. Tikkas were spot on for their taste with one exception of the Seekh Kebab. This kind of Kebab tend to get dry pretty soon. Maybe the tenderising agent needed to be more pronounced to make it more moist.
Drums of Heaven were ze best in my last visit and it was only obvious to add it in our order this time too. Piping hot, crispy chicken did good to elevate our moods.
The only blemish of this dinner was Dahi Ke Kebabs. Hung crud was too sweet for our liking almost like a Shrikhand (not consistency wise but only taste wise). Every bite of this Kebab brought with it a strong aroma and taste of curry leaf which again was in access along with the sweetness. If you are keen on trying this dish, you are forewarned that the tempering of the curd was too strong with curry leaf, cardamom and sugar. The only dish that left a lot to desire but not every dish is for everyone and I would give them credit for all the other good dishes. The service was great. Each dish came at the right speed not making us wait too much for the next. Instructions for kids were heard and executed well.
One thing that I always ask after our meal when I go out with a bunch of friends is "Will you come back here again?" The answer to this question tells a lot about an overall experience and not just the food. So when I asked one of the kids, he said "Definitely". Just like my first visit at Makeba, the kid too was ready to come back again. It was a...
Read moreNothing much here people, just my mistake for those who want to learn from it... (Don't need to read the full I wrote too much, would waste your time, just the second para, third )
While it might look like a Fine Dining option at first glance, please don't think and go with those expectations, sure they do have Original Kikkoman Soy Souce and Tobasco, that is the only praise worthy thing, in short not worth the pricing even for the atmosphere.
Food: the Sushi ... probably the worst we ever had, better off visiting Kuro, Sushito or Bento Box if you want to know what authentic Sushi is like, Pizza (Thin Crust), being honest tasted the same as those Frozen Pizza's, not what I was expecting. Neapolitan? They didn't have it in stock... No comment there... The Soup felt was one of those 3 minute ones... Most likely it wasn't even made with real tomato broth (Tomato Basil Soup), and of course the Veg Platter (Paneer) wasn't even marinated in proper sauces...
Service: The Service u ask... well the floor manager or supervisor was respectful and polite but ig wasn't really informed of how their food tasted and on asking for a pizza recommendation (of pizza) said to go on ahead with the thin crust stating it would be good... The Server's mostly polite, that's a good thing - didn't have an attitude, but we're a bit aloof, not very attentive. Further, almost all the food came in like 3-4 min apart ... Weren't even done with the soup or appetizers and all the 3 main courses had arrived... and the dinner plates weren't even brought out... Had to ask for them.
Comment: It deserves a rating of 4 for the atmosphere only, keep that in mind with moderate expectations and you'll be fine and have a great time... Just wanted to protect others from making the same mistake I did and being disappointed at the end.
Again, It's not worth going for the price range, you can spend your time and money on much better food at someplace else nearby. I would rather it better only if the price range was lowered to half what it is now.
NOTE: They have a pretty big menu, we only tried a few things but none of them turned out great or even good... In case anyone had something great, let others know what to order if they go here. Also if you have small kids they would have liked the place - apart from the amount of spice they add - ask them about the spice level (specifically in things like soups).
An advice from a Nobody? they have a pretty big menu... rather they should focus more on serving hot, fresh food, and improving the quality of items on a smaller menu... With the vibes and atmosphere there it can seriously climb a lot higher...

We recently visited House of Makeba, Bodakdev (Ahmedabad) for a team dinner with my office colleagues — a total of 23 people — and I must say it turned out to be one of the finest dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. From the moment we stepped in, the ambiance, the vibe, and the hospitality left a lasting impression on all of us.
The place itself is beautifully done — a perfect mix of comfort, elegance, and modern aesthetics. The lighting, music, and overall atmosphere make it ideal for both group gatherings and casual dinners. Despite us being such a large group, everything was managed flawlessly without any delays or confusion.
What truly made the evening special was the top-class service. Every staff member was polite, well-trained, and genuinely attentive. But a special mention must go to Mr. Sagar, who took care of our entire group with exceptional professionalism and warmth. He was incredibly courteous, patient, and attentive to every small detail — from taking orders accurately to ensuring that everyone’s food was served hot and on time.
Sagar constantly checked in to make sure everything was perfect and went above and beyond to make sure we had a comfortable experience. Handling a group of 23 people smoothly is no small task, but he did it effortlessly with a smile throughout. His service alone made the entire experience even more memorable.
Coming to the food — it was absolutely delicious! Every dish we ordered, from starters to main course, was fresh, well-presented, and full of authentic flavors. The mocktails were refreshing and beautifully served, and the dessert was the perfect way to wrap up the meal. The portion sizes were generous, and the quality was consistent across all items.
Overall, House of Makeba Bodakdev exceeded our expectations in every way — food, ambiance, service, and hospitality. A big thank you to the entire team for such a smooth and enjoyable evening, and a special appreciation to Mr. Sagar for his outstanding service and personal attention to detail.
We’ll definitely be coming back soon — and recommending House of Makeba to anyone looking for a premium dining experience in Ahmedabad.
Highly...
