Unacceptable Quality and Service at DAS Surti Khaman, science city food outlet– A Disservice to the Brand’s Reputation
I had the unfortunate experience of visiting DAS Surti Khaman, a well-known name in Gujarat, especially during the joyous occasion of Holi. However, what I encountered was nothing short of disappointing, and I feel compelled to share my experience to bring attention to this serious issue.
I visited this place with high hopes to purchase some of their iconic Gujarati snacks to celebrate the festival with family and guests. Unfortunately, I was met with a shocking display of negligence in both service and food quality.
First, I waited for 15 minutes in a long line, excited to enjoy fresh snacks. When it was my turn, I was handed a bag filled with what seemed like old, pre-packed food. The snacks were cold and tasted stale. When I politely asked the staff to pack fresh food from a new batch, the staff member gave me an unacceptable excuse: "The food arrives at 7 AM, and we serve whatever is available."
This is not only unprofessional but also concerning, especially considering the reputation this brand has in Gujarat. I insisted multiple times that I wouldn’t accept such behavior or food, and after a prolonged exchange, the staff begrudgingly agreed to pack my order. However, despite weighing the snacks and seemingly preparing fresh food, the items I received were still from the old batch that had been sitting there for hours.
To make matters worse, both I and my guest experienced food poisoning shortly after consuming the snacks, resulting in severe loose motions and stomach discomfort. This caused a huge embarrassment on a festive day and tarnished the entire experience for my guests. It’s sad to see that a renowned brand like DAS Surti Khaman, which has built its name on quality, has become a victim of poor management and carelessness.
This incident reflects poorly not only on the service provided but also on the brand’s identity and credibility. The food was clearly substandard, and the staff was unprofessional, offering no solutions or empathy. I understand that things can get busy during festivals, but this is no excuse for compromising food safety and customer satisfaction.
As a responsible consumer, I hope that the Food and Drug Department of Gujarat takes this matter seriously and looks into the quality control procedures of such franchises. If a brand of this stature can serve food that’s not fresh and causes harm to customers, it speaks volumes about the lack of oversight. The affluent community of Science City, Ahmedabad, deserves better.
I sincerely hope that DAS Surti Khaman reevaluates its food handling practices and works towards regaining the trust of the local community. No one should have to face health issues because of negligence at a food establishment.
