The Nutshell — Restaurant in Jammu and Kashmir

I stayed for two days in Zostel Srinagar with a friend in March. We took a Super deluxe double room (Yes, Zostels usually have dorms but also a few double rooms). The location is great for a person like me who likes some quiet space away from the maddening crowd and vehicle noise. It's a little inside (about 450 m) from the main road running along Dal lake. But the distance is pretty walkable. The rooms are spacious, beddings are clean (only the chairs are somewhat stained). As against the usual hotel rooms, toilets are quite clean and all the stuff like taps, geyser, wiper etc are of good quality. The food is very good, main course as well as 'nuun chai' and kehwa and doesn't take too long to arrive. They have hot and cold water filters on every floor so no plastic bottles of water are required. The staff are helpful, especially Irfan, the manager. My only issue was the shoes which are not allowed inside the premises. So they have slippers which you use everywhere in the premises except kitchen where one can't wear any footwear. The slippers kept there were big sizes and it was doubly difficult for me to walk around in slippers, that too big ones. And when one is travelling and staying up in a hotel/ hostel room, it's a nuisance to pack everything and then leave your room carrying your suitcase, bags and in addition your shoes in hand, then take off slippers, wear shoes, open your bags just to pack slippers ! I recently visited this place and i found it absolutely spectacular. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere that immediately put me at ease. The decor was elegant and tasteful, with just the right amount of lighting to create a cozy ambiance.

The menu offered a wide variety of options, each one sounding more delicious than the last. I opted for one of their signature dishes, and I was not disappointed in the slightest. The food was cooked to perfection, with just the right balance of flavors and spices. The presentation was exquisite and the portions were generous.

The service was impeccable. Our server was friendly, attentive and went above and beyond to make our dining experience special. They knew everything about the menu, and even had great recommendations for wine pairings.

In short, my experience at this restaurant was fantastic. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for exceptional food and a warm and cozy ambiance. This is definitely a place I will be returning to...

Visited for lunch and was extremely disappointed. The staff seemed completely disinterested in attending to individual guests, focusing instead on large tourist groups. Despite arriving at 2:30 PM, we were informed that 80% of the menu was unavailable. It took calling the staff at least five times before anyone came to take our order.

We were told that running orders were not allowed and that everything had to be ordered at once. After placing our order and waiting 45 minutes, we were informed that no kebabs were available and were pushed to order additional curries instead. After waiting for over an hour, we finally received just one curry and some naan.
