On the onset let me tell you that I cook . So I don't usually give good ratings unless the food is really good .
I googled for a restaurant in Kannur and chanced upon ajwa as a thalassery biryani restaurant. So thought it would be good to check it out .
( I was deeply upset with some Bangalore restaurants calling themselves thalassery restaurant and dishing out bakwas biryani . )
Ajwa was a extremely good experience . We ordered one mutton biryani and two full chicken biryani and one half chicken biryani for the child . They served onion cucumber salad spiced with black pepper powder and dressed with vinegar.
The chicken biryani came with good quantities of rice . And whether you order half or full the rice is full only the chicken pieces is reduced to two . The full biryani had 4 decent sized chicken . Which I think is the leghorn variety .
The mutton was a wee bit tough but the rice was extremely good with great aroma .
You could tell the goodness of biryani rice by taking a morsel before mixing the masala . Ajwas biryani rice passes this test for being flavourful.
The masala was right and overall their biryani enough to warrant a five star.
Good job ajwa . You are one of the keeper of authentic thalassery biryani izzat.
Pity that they didn't have prawns biryani the day we...
Read moreExcellent. It was a surprise find in that location. Loved the concept, there are only 6 main dishes on their menu. Chicken Biriyani, Mutton Biriyani, Fish Biriyani, Vegetable Biriyani and 2 varieties of fried chicken. But the food was yummm. So if you are a Biriyani lover, this could be one hidden gem that you should not miss. Very cozy keralite atmosphere. Well maintained and very clean. They did not have any ambient music, but the aroma of the Biriyani made up for it. It was a mouth watering experience waiting for the food. The place is not air conditioned, but it did not seem to be a requirement as it was feeling cold inside with the traditional tiled roofing. We got a peek into their kitchen through an open door and it looked very clean and quite modern compared to many other kitchens we saw at Kerala restaurants. They have a lot of parking space which I find as a necessity, so that was a plus for me. Service was quick as there were ample staff and to add to it, the manager / owner (not sure) who had welcomed us as we entered, came in between our wait and ensured that we got our food on time. They do home delivery within a 5 km radius and also does...
Read moreMan o man was I in for a treat. So this place was recommend by a friend of mine and I decided to go there. The place was packed during lunch and I ordered the special mutton biriyani, one chicken fired leg and a piece of fish which is a big piece from the biriyani which served separately. When I got my biriyani, 3 piece of mutton which I got was bones and I was let down and I told them about the situation and they immediately Brought me a plate with full of mutton with some excellent pieces! The rice was very flavour full, the mutton was exquisite like melt in your mouth soft and tasted so good! The chicken fired leg was crispy and tender, the fish tastes pretty good too. I wouldn't blame them on the mutton bones initially cause when it was hot it must have come off and they rectified the problem too. And to top it all off I had a lemon tea which was excellent, very refreshing. So if your ever in this part of town and just want some excellent biriyani, don't hesitate check this place out. You won't be disappointed. Your gonna come out with a happy tummy and...
