Gyan Vaishnav — Restaurant in Kanpur

It was my first-ever visit to Kanpur City, and as someone from Hyderabad—a city renowned for its Biryani—I naturally searched for one. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the results. So, I shifted my focus to Thali-serving restaurants and came across Gyan Vaishnav Hotel, Gumti No.5, Kanpur.

The mixed reviews gave me a novice jitter, but I decided to give it a try. I started from Mac Robert Gunj and reached the hotel at 12:00 PM, only to be told to wait for another hour. Finally, I returned at 1:00 PM to give it a go.

The menu is simple, displayed on the wall at the entrance. My order: ✔ Jeera Aloo – ₹55 ✔ Dal Fry – ₹45 ✔ Roti – ₹12 each ✔ Jeera Rice – ₹35

The portions are relatively small, but the food is succulent. I ended my meal with their dessert, Kheer (Sabudana – ₹30), which was good but not exceptional.

Location: The hotel’s name board is visible from the main road, but it's tucked inside, making the approach seem shabby and questionable. However, once inside, the old-school vibe and compact two-floor seating make it a decent spot—though expect waiting during peak hours.

Good restaurant for pure vegetarian food cooked in ghee at the mid city near Gumti gurudwara at Gumti no. 5. It has a selected varieties of paneer and mix vegetable. Tandoori, missi, stuffed and lachha paratha. Kheer is a must try. I promise you that you wont stopat only one kheer after tasting that. It has a proper sitting space like any other restaurant and has 2 floors. Still during peak lunch and dinner hours, one may need to wait for 10 to 15 mins for getting a chance to sit. The serving time is very fast and serving staff is very nice. They give proper bill for what you eat including GST. Rates are very reasonable and quite affordable for class of people and food is super hygenic, fresh and good quality.
