Read moreI wish I could give more than five stars. With that out of the way, let's dig in.
The ambiance is quite nice - a balance between rustic and upscale, leaning towards the rustic side. The food - If I could afford it, I'd move in next door to the restaurant and eat there for the rest of my life! It is THAT GOOD! Prices are quite nominal - a meal for two, plus two portions parceled, was less than 1200 bucks. You can very easily have a solid meal for under 300 bucks per person here. And for the taste and the quality of food, it's mind-blowing! Portion sizes are quite generous! I went with a friend of mine, and despite my being a pretty good eater, I was quite satisfied with one portion of Bellary rice. If you like red meat, you DEFINITELY must try it. It is quite amazing. Service is quite nice - they won't hound you for orders, and they won't ignore you. That is so spot-on there. Flavours - Yes - I need to talk about that here. The flavours are just magnificent! Every single ingredient is in a perfect balance, and there's never more spice than what's needed. Considering how difficult it is to cook red meat, I will give ten stars out of five to the chefs.
You know how most restaurants will have one, two, or maybe a handful of dishes they do really well, and the rest are between average to slightly below? That does NOT happen here. Somehow, despite a menu that would take about 15 minutes to go through properly, IT IS THAT BIG!, they seem to have a handle on it spectacularly!
I honestly don't know how they manage it. It is too darn good to be true, and yet it is!
I am grasping for straws here, trying to find ONE con amongst all the pros. Maybe the appam did become a little sticky, and we had to pry the last one off the plate. It didn't tear. it came right off and quite easily. So, is that a con?...
Read moreFor a true taste of Kerala’s traditional flavors, Ammachiyide kaippunnyam does not disappoint. Their Kottayam-style Kappa (Tapioca) with Meen Curry, Beef, and Pork is a feast that brings out the bold, authentic essence of Kerala cuisine.
The Kappa & Meen Curry is an absolute delight! The tapioca is cooked to perfection—soft, slightly mashed, and well-seasoned with coconut, mustard seeds, and green chilies. The meen curry (fish curry) is a star on its own, made in the Kottayam-style with kudampuli (Malabar tamarind), giving it a rich, tangy, and spicy kick that pairs beautifully with the mild, buttery kappa.
The Kappa Beef and Kappa Pork are just as impressive. Both dishes carry the signature flavors, with the meats slow-cooked to tenderness, absorbing the deep, earthy flavors of kudampuli, roasted spices, and coconut. The beef is rich and peppery, while the pork has a robust, smoky flavor that lingers deliciously. Each bite is packed with bold spices and the comforting taste of home-cooked Kerala food.
Adding to the experience is the ambience—cozy and nostalgic, with old Malayalam classics playing in the background. The dim lighting, wooden décor, and the familiar warmth of a Kerala kitchen make it the perfect place to enjoy a hearty meal.
If you're craving authentic kappa dishes with the perfect balance of spice, tang, and tradition, this spot is a...
