5 star rate and 1 star service and food
Edit for owners response:
Thank you for your response. I’d like to clarify a few points in response regarding pricing and quality.
When you say “Jaalakam is a bit different,” it seems the difference is mainly in charging 3x price. For example, Chef Pillai, a premium and well-established Kerala brand in Bangalore, charges Rs. 35 for an appam, while you guys charge Rs. 45 (I know comparing a premium brand with small setup is not ideal. but see the price is still higher for this small setup) . They have better infrastructure, better seating and tastier dishes, in my opinion, their appam is much tastier and crispier. The so called Rs.45 premium appam that i got from your restaurant was even burned underneath. I’m using appam as a reference for a simple comparison (same goes with many other dishes).
I also tried the Malabar chicken curry at =Rs. 280, the taste was disappointing, extremely spicy to the point, I was scrambling for water. As a Malayali, I’m familiar with our spice levels, but this was beyond normal.
On the “health” aspect, your pazhampori is visibly dripping oil. I even saw a customer refuse to take it after noticing the excess oil, which directly contradicts the healthy cooking claim caring for customers “Health & Heart”
If a family of two dines at Jaalakam, the bill averages around Rs. 1,500, on par with premium restaurants ( Please tell me what premium experience you give here, stray dogs coming behind you, while you wait at the restaurant ? 😊). In Malayalam, we have a saying: “First sit, then stretch your legs.” Right now, it feels like Jaalakam is stretching its legs before sitting, at least from a pricing perspective.
If the focus is only on making profit with minimal infrastructure and below par service, I’m sorry to say this approach might not last long
Regarding service, I will contact you directly to discuss further as I do not want to humiliate you guys on a public platform for that behaviour i have faced.
The sincerity, service and quality that you have mentioned here can only be seen in words, not in any action apparently
On a funnier note
Jaalakam’s menu prices seem to be in direct competition with Nvidia’s stock as its rising day by day at an exponential rate 🤓
Once again, Thankyou for the...
Read moreHappy that we happened to visit this place on the way from airport to whitefield!
We ordered: Duck Mappas Paal Kappa Appam and Porottas Mutton Biriyani Chicken Fry Omlet Faluda Nannari soda, Sweet and Salt Lemon Juice, Tea and Lemon Tea.
All items were superb, but each one deserves a mention: the Duck Mappas was finger-licking yummy! It's beyond words. Can revisit the place just to relish this again! Paal kappa was soft as butter and was delicious Porottaas were crispy outside and soft inside with the perfect taste of kerala porotta. Nowadays we hardly get this kind of authentic porotta. Most of the places either go with ready made ones or the person working with the dough lacks expertise! This one was Spot On! About the appam, I have a suggestion. It can be a little more thin and crispy. This one was a little heavy on the stomach though fluffy. Mutton Biriyani tasted the Kozhikodan style. Was amazing. The Mutton pieces were soooo tender too. Chicken Fry reminded me of the one that we get at Trivandrum (Poricha kozhiyum Chapathiyum combination). Omlet reminded me of the Indian Cofee House omlet from those days! Faluda was rich in fruits, nuts, and so many natural elements. All other juices had their own natural flavour.
The place is small but not cluttered. It's well organized. It's cozy whether we sit inside or outside. The ambiance is premium looking.
The hospitality of the owners is also commendable - how they receives us, checks on us, takes feedback, shows gratitude etc. They've apparently started this restaurant with certain noble intents of serving authentic kerala cuisine with natural ingredients. The rates of items in the menu definitely reflects it but it's 100% worth it!
All 6 of us were so delighted that we randomly reached here! Will surely visit again.
Altogether, the perfect Kerala Restaurant that reminds the taste buds of the authentic...

Jaalakam (meaning "window" in Malayalam) isn't just another Kerala restaurant – it's a labor of love born from four friends who share more than just their passion for authentic Malayali cuisine.
With just 24 seats, this intimate space feels less like a restaurant and more like being invited to a traditional Kerala home. The interiors are tastefully minimal. True to its name, Jaalakam serves as a window into the rich culinary heritage of God's Own Country.
What sets Jaalakam apart is their unwavering commitment to authenticity and quality. The menu, while concise, is a carefully curated journey through Kerala's diverse culinary landscape. Each dish is selected with great interest and prepared with love, ensuring that every item on the limited menu is a standout.
Service here is exemplary – attentive, knowledgeable, and personal. The staff is always ready to share stories about the dishes' origins or suggest combinations that work best. They remember returning customers' preferences, and their enthusiasm for their craft is infectious.
We tried Parippu Vada along with KL style chai a good combination on a rainy day. Kadalla Curry with Appam was the next one to go to. Next time am banking on the NV dishes. Do no disappoint me team.
Jaalakam proves that sometimes, keeping things small and focused is the secret to creating something truly exceptional. It's not just a meal; it's a passage to God's Own Country, served with passion,...
