History of Davangere Benne Dose. Davanagere Benne Dose has an interesting history dated from 1928. A lady by name Chennamma migrated to Davanagere with her children and started preparing Dosa, Chutney and Potato Palya with her own unique recipe. She started her tiny eatery in front of Savalagi Drama Theater near Vasantha Talkies at Davanagere which became popular for its taste.

Initially she used to prepare Dosa with Ragi batter. Later by 1938, her children started preparing Dosa with Rice batter, puffed rice, dal with generous dollops of butter. This became extremely popular with locals very soon. This was carried on by Chennamma's two sons Shanthappa and Mahadevappa. They both opened their own eateries.

Shanthappa opened his own eatery in 1944 called "Shantappa Dosa Hotel" and this is the oldest Benne Dose eatery of Davanagere located near Clock tower in Old Davanagere. This is presently run by his son Ganesh.

Mahadevappa opened his eatery near Vasantha theatre which does not exist today. His elder son Ravi has a Benne Dose eatery on Church Road as Ravi benne dose hotel.  His younger son Viji also has his own Vijji Benne Dosa eatery at dental...

I am sure, very selective people will have courage to get into this hotel by seeing the location and the way it is setup and without knowing its history. But after tasting the dose here, there will be no regrets or hesitation in telling people how nice it tasted.

We had read a lot about this Shantapa benne dose hotel in blogs and comments by food lovers. This place is setup in heart of the market and setup in old corner building. we were there for breakfast around the shop opening time 8.15 Morning. Saw very less crowd, had a duel mind should we really try here or visit other place, but as we had read about it, through we will give a try.

You get kali dose and benne dose here, we thought we will start with benne dose, Ahh dose just melted in mouth, perfectly roasted with good amount of benne on it. Chutney is big spicy, aloo palya was good too..

This is a must try place in Davanagere, there are many hyped hotels, for sure you will not regret by going...

It would not be wrong if it's told that this hotel serves the best benne Dosa in DAVANAGERE. One needs to be ready to sit inside have the piping hot benne dosa it's a tiny place with 4 or 5 tables to sit.

All you get is Benne and Khali Dose but trust me this the best I had in the town. Khali dose it just melts in the mouth and benne dose has it's own golden texture and as crispy as it needs to be. Bite with that Coconut chutney is just wow your taste buds will get rejuvenate with that spicy texture and Aloo palya is mild and soft with the crunchy onions.

Price is very less compared to other places. We paid around 300rs for eight doses.

Overall it's a go to place if you are looking for The Best Benne Dose in the town and try to go early as it's crowded and people have to stand out.
