The owner responded to my review by claiming that we never visited the restaurant for lunch or dinner. However, I clearly stated in my review that we went there for dinner. This discrepancy makes me question the owner’s intentions even more that it was intentional, and it seems as though this response may have been made deliberately - We had an extremely distressing experience at this restaurant. On the last evening of our trip (23-05-2025), my husband ordered two rotis with paneer butter masala. Within just ten minutes of eating, he began to feel unwell. The following morning, we had a taxi booked for our departure, but his condition quickly worsened during the journey. It became so severe that we were forced to admit him to a hospital en route in Basaveshwara hospital where he was treated with three bottles of saline and discharged after several hours. Unfortunately, the treatment provided little relief, and he continued to suffer throughout our return journey, requiring frequent stops at public toilets which was another safety concern due to their hygiene.
While we were fortunate to have a compassionate driver who supported us, this ordeal has been traumatic, especially for my husband, who is visiting as a tourist from Germany. Based on our experience, I am deeply concerned about the quality and safety of the food served here. I suspect that the food may have been leftover or not fresh, as I initially had a strong gut upon entering the restaurant. Despite this, we chose to give this family-run restaurant a chance.
As I write this review, my husband is still feeling very unwell. I will be reporting this incident to the local Hampi authorities to help ensure the safety of other tourists. It is unacceptable for any restaurant to compromise the health and well-being of its patrons while charging premium prices. I urge others to exercise caution when considering this restaurant.

Read moreOn the second day of our Hampi trip, we followed the suggestion of our homestay manager and headed to Shanti Restaurant for a South Indian breakfast. The restaurant has a welcoming ambiance and offers limited parking, which was manageable early in the morning. We ordered uttapam, vada, ghee dosa, and tea.
While the food overall was good, the uttapam was not as impressive. The ghee dosa was crispy and tasted nice, but it felt somewhat lacking in quantity and filling, especially for its price of ₹90. We expected some filling or spices inside, but it was just a plain dosa fried with ghee. However, the vada was fresh and satisfying, and the highlight of the meal was definitely the tea, which was fantastic.
The service was polite and accommodating. Initially, we had ordered puri, but later decided to switch to vada, and they happily accepted the change without any fuss.
In conclusion, Shanti Restaurant offers decent South Indian fare, but the portion sizes could have been a bit more generous for the price. The service and tea were definite positives, making it a decent spot for a quick...
Read moreThe person at the counter was rude and lacked basic customer service skills. He did not know how to communicate respectfully with customers. The food quality was okay not that great as it is rated on Google review. I have gone through several past reviews, and it’s clear that this person has a consistent pattern of being rude and disrespectful towards customers. This isn’t just our experience, many others have highlighted similar behavior, which speaks volumes about his unprofessionalism. What’s even more disturbing is his false and offensive claim that we were consuming alcohol during breakfast. That’s a serious and baseless accusation, and it says more about his own mindset and lack of integrity than anything else. One has to wonder what kind of values lead someone to fabricate stories and insult paying guests instead of addressing concerns with dignity and professionalism. If this is how he was raised to lie and mistreat customers then it reflects very poorly on...
