If I’m in Hassan on a weekday morning, I would definitely visit this place. I’m not a fan of this place during weekend due to the unimaginable crowd.
The restaurant has kept its old charm in terms of the ambience. May it be wooden tables and chairs or the old school food showcases or the rustic interiors. Everything makes you feel like you are in 90’s. I love their ambience.
The service on weekdays is really quick and to the point. Most of the people who work here has decades of experience and knows how to handle the customers. Their genuine way of greeting and on time delivery of food just wins my heart.
I usually have Thuppa Set Dose here which is signature dish. They serve 3 set of soft dosas with chutney, onion palya & thuppa combination as side dish which gives an elegant taste to the set dosa. I love this combination so much so that I usually need 2-3 times refill of chutney bowl for 3 set dosa. Also the Vada will be really good with right amount of outer crispiness and soft interior. Food can never disappoint you in here.
The pricing is very nominal. The hygiene factor is good but lack of soap dispenser at hand wash is really let down. They do accept UPI and cash for payment.
Overall, I highly recommend this place for it’s legend, old school charm and fantastic thuppa set...
Read moreThis little gem is a local institution apparently. A small-ish neighborhood tiffin center, Gajanana serves up delicious but standard tiffins such as Idli, dosa, vada etc. We ordered vadas dunked in sambar, Benne Kaali Dosa (Buttered dosas with potato masala and chutney on the side.) and a Mosaru Vade (Vada smothered with seasoned yogurt and topped with boondi.) Coffee to finish off. Sambar-vade: Was very good. For those unused to tasting the sweetness of jaggery in the sambar, this sambar can be a tad off-putting. Benne Kaali Dosa: Generously buttered, crisp perfection with a side of mildly spiced potato and coconut chutney. This is indeed Gajanana's signature dish. DO NOT MISS! Mosaru Vade (Thayir Vada or Vada soaked in yogurt) This one was so-so for me because once again, the yogurt has been sweetened a bit with sugar. For those who are used to the sweetness, this dish would be just fine.
Coffee - Excellent 👌
Service - Prompt and friendly. Atmosphere - No frills and basic. Restroom - Toilet wasn't great. Hard miss. Price - VERY reasonable! Our bill for Three dosas, three sambar vadas, three coffees and one thayir vadai...
