Pavillion Restaurant is the multi-cuisine restaurant located in Hotel Abad Fort. When we visited Kochi in the month of June, we happened to stay in this hotel for two days.
The look of Pavillion has totally changed and I must say they have done up the place really well. It is more spacious and the furniture has changed. You can find modern types of lights and other interiors. There are even paintings on the walls that make the place look extremely sophisticated.
Our train reached by 11:30 a.m. and by the time we checked in, it was lunch time. It was 1:00 p.m. when we entered Pavillion Restaurant and could see that most of the tables were occupied. We sat at a table near the entrance that is also next to the door that leads you to the outdoor dining area.
After browsing through the menu, we ordered:
Appetizer - Gobi Kandahari - It was served on a platter that had papad, salad and chutney. One portion comes with four gigantic pieces of Gobi. As it was full of flavour, you can choose to eat it with or without the chutney.
Appetizer - Kairali Fried Chicken - One portion comprises of six pieces of chicken.
Main Course - Appam - The Appams were extremely soft and crispy on the edges. When you put a piece in your mouth, it will just melt. Pairs well with any gravy, regardless of whether it's vegetarian or non-vegetarian.
Main Course - Egg Roast - One point I must make is that the quantity of any dish is a lot. If there are two or more people, they will be able to share one portion. There were two boiled eggs in the Egg Roast. Though I don't eat egg, the aroma was very tempting!
Main Course - Pasta Mac N Cheese - Being a huge foodie, I love various types of cuisines. Whenever I travel, I always order pasta for my main course. This time, I ordered Pasta Mac N Cheese. The cheese sauce was still bubbling when the dish was kept in front of me. The dish was so hot that I had to wait for ten minutes to start eating it. My goodness, the quantity was a lot for one person, so I ended up parceling to the room so I could eat it later.
We chose the complimentary breakfast option when we had booked our room. The items were served in the buffet and other items such as the made to order dosas and omelette were brought directly to the table. The Puri was crispy and soft and paired well with the potato bhaaji. The Idlis were pillowy soft, dosas were hot and delicious and the vadas were crisp and not oily.
There is a dessert counter that is located in the Lobby, but none of the items were eggless, so I did not get a chance to taste the brownie and pastries.
The hotel was totally occupied because of a wedding party, so when we entered the Pavillion for breakfast or lunch, it was extremely crowded. However, the service was good as the food was served on time, tasty and hot too!
Though we were busy running around most of the time, we enjoyed lunch only on the day we reached, but the breakfast we relished for two consecutive days. Also, we decided to order Cold Coffee via room service one evening just to to quench our thirst as the weather was extremely hot.
In the future, I plan on visiting Pavillion Restaurant to try out some of the other dishes that I happened to see...
Read moreWe visited Pavilion Restaurant at Hotel Abad Fort, Chullikkal last week for lunch and had a highly disappointing experience. We ordered meals, chapathi, wheat porotta, beef roast, chilli chicken, and seer fish tava fry, but the food quality did not meet even basic expectations. • The meals were average at best. • The seer fish tava fry was outright pathetic, with the fish cut so thin (about 0.5 cm thick) that it barely felt like a improper serving. • The beef roast was another disappointment—we struggled to find actual beef pieces in the dish. It was more like an onion masala gravy with a beef garnish rather than a proper beef roast. • The other dishes were also underwhelming, making the overall experience quite frustrating.
It’s surprising that a restaurant under the Abad brand, which is known for decent dining experiences in Kochi, serves such subpar food. If this level of quality continues, it will undoubtedly harm the reputation of Abad Catering.
A humble request to the restaurant management: Please do not mislead customers who choose to dine here based on their positive experiences at other Abad outlets. Politeness from staff is appreciated, but it does not compensate for poor food quality. A restaurant exists to provide good food in the right quality and quantity, not just polite service.
Until there is a significant improvement in food standards, I cannot recommend this...
