dmin · 6 April Siji’s Pizza Street | Kumarapuram
Trivandrum was definitely lacking good competition for pizzas. Of course there is Ambrosia who started it all to Imperial Kitchen to Brickhouse Oven to the QSRs. The competition has surely got stiffer with the arrival of Siji’s Pizza Street. Started serving some delicacies as home chefs, Ayisha Nizam and Sajjad Saleem couple caught the eyeballs of many a members for their authentic Arabic preparations. This has eventually paved the path and thus Siji’s Pizza Street was born.
Tucked into the lane which leads to Tennis Complex and Teacher Education Center in Kumarapuram, the exteriors and interiors of the place is wonderfully done. Outside resembles that of a bus stand with Pizzeria paintings all around, whereas interior is blessed with minimal lights, quotes on walls, and wood centric décor.
Pizza Street Special: This specials from Sijis is a generous pizza with chunks of Beef, Chicken Ham, Chicken Sausages and Salami. No complaints whatsoever, especially on the quantity of the non-veg toppings used. Corn, Olives and Mushrooms represented the veg army and they too were used in appropriate proportions. A flavorful delight.
Cheesy Chicken: A pizza for cheese lovers indeed. Regular portions of chicken along with a combination of Mozzarella, Parmesan and Feta cheese. Feta cheese was spot on, however parmesan and mozzarella could have been a bit more. The suggestion was taken positively and I was told that they will replace it, however, I decided against it. Got a call today from the management and they told they found a better alternative for the cheese used. Highly appreciate the gesture.
Barbecue Chicken: While hogging on the pizzas, came across a gentleman, who’s an EAT regular. Mr. Sai Krishna. They ordered a Barbecue Chicken and I tasted a slice from it. Can’t argue much, the best pizza that I had that day, hands down. Chunks of barbecue chicken on a bed of cheese. Marvellous.
Iced Tea: Being an ardent fan of iced tea, I almost order from any restaurants that I visit. There was a slight consistency issue, one having more flavor of tea than the other, however, as long as I get hints of both tea and peach, or tea and lemon, I guess I will be a happy man.
The first visit at Siji’s Pizza Street left me wanting for more. Glad to see Trivandrum growing in all axes. Eat At Trivandrum wishes Siji’s Pizza Street...
Read moreThree of us went to sijis for dinner, we ordered creamy pasta, a personal Mexicano pizza and a chicken burger, with two iced teas. We were served food in take out aluminium foil container, which was too small ( the ones in which we get fried chicken/ fries in). The burger Patty texture and taste was like paneer and it had carrot gratings in it, a lot of it. We asked the waiter to please come to our table. He didn't look up at us from his chair at first, we called him again and he said he'll be there in a minute. When we asked him if the burger was vegetarian, he started to get defensive, and said in the lines of " it's chicken, can't you see? We make our own patties, they're our special recipe, we don't make a lot and freeze them before hand. It's chicken." My friend had to share our food and he only ate the buns of th burger, I've had my fair share of veggie burgers, even though I prefer the meaty versions and this one I couldn't eat more than a bite because the Pattie consistency was that of cooked flour, and tasted weird with all th half cooked carrots. The iced tea had a ton of sugar underneath, not dissolved, which is not a problem but it was kinda annoying. The pasta and the pizza tasted good tho. when they billed us, they put in the price of two pizzas instead of one. Unfortunately I was in a hurry to get out of there since that place was killing our vibe, so I didn't check the bill. Not going back...
Read moreThin crust, wood-fired pizzas that are rich in cheese but low on the meat portions. The pizzas are upped on flavour due to the baked cheesy layer and secret sauce. But meat and veggies are few and far between on the topping spectrum.
There is no question about the flavour. They would easily beat Domino's and every other small-timer and biggish in the city.
But the pizza is barely filling due to the thinnest bread. It's like cheesing and topping is laid over a crust of the India roti-bread. I tried eating an entire 9"pizza and it barely filled half my tummy, while at the same time, I can hardly finish the Domino's pizza of the same size.
They charge a hefty sum on the pizzas, and despite all the shortcomings, they still manage to attract a decent amount of crowd. They've expanded further and established two more branches in kazhakootam and vazhuthacaud.
Personally, I would still go for Domino's because the topping is almost of the same quantum, but the bread is more fluffier and, thus, the pizza is more filling. Price-wise, Domino's is cheaper, and on top of that, they bring about interesting offers from time-to-time that make it easy on the pocket.
But Siji has become a next-door name for pizzas in Trivandrum now. Its almost the first choice when pizza is on the dinner itinerary. Folks have fallen in love with the uprising trend of local newcomers and have become blinded to...
