It's a famous resturent of this Tollyguang area. They describes about themselves in their website as "The first outlet was started in 1929 in Kolkata, selling the famous Awadhi cuisine of Lucknow. The family grew and the second generation of the family choose to expand the family business looking at the growing demand for Awadhi/Mughlai food in the city. The largest and most well-known outlet is located in the Futnani Chamber near the Kolkata Municipal Corporation in Sir Stuart Hogg Market or New Market. On the 15th of August 1946, the Aminia Restaurant opened its doors to the food loving public of Kolkata. Aminia’s food at New Market has changed considerably over the years to cater to the Bengali palate. Bengalis are very sweet loving people and have a tendency to add some sugar to their food. Abdul Qayum brought down the spiciness and oiliness in the food and made them sweeter by adding more onions in their mutton rezala and mutton/chicken chaap. The gravy consistency was made lighter to make it appear like ‘jhol’ as especially done with our famous ‘Aminia Special’. Aminia has come a long way since then. The restaurant is today being run by its third and fourth generations and has expanded to various parts of Kolkata. Although its oldest outlets still exist, over the years we have set up other outlets in Golpark, Garia, Tollygunge, Jessore Road, Rajarhat, Shyam Bazar, Behala and most recently Barrackpore. Even today, we still continue to scout potential locales where we can provide the old silver spoon service at competitive prices and a much larger and more innovative menu than its original. We at Aminia believe in a culture of Art, be it in the form of promoting renowned as well as emerging artists and providing a platform to showcase their work and realise their creative potential. All of our recent outlets have an array of art from renowned and emerging artists from different walks of life. We, at Aminia also believe in giving back to the community which has supported us and our establishment for generations. At our Rajarhat branch, we have displayed works from young talents from Anando, which is an NGO working on issues related to the protection and education of disadvantaged children. Company Objective: To reach maximum people in most convenient way to make people taste our cuisine at...
Read moreWent to this place on Ashtami afternoon. It was comparatively less crowded than other restaurants in that area. So, we didn't have to wait to get our table.
We ordered the following things at Aminia, Tollygunge:
Chicken Malai Kebab Lachchha Paratha Chicken Handi Kebab Phirni
The chicken malai kebabs were okayish. They weren't exactly melt-in-your-mouth soft, but tasted decent. I would have liked them better if they were softer and juicier.
The lachchha parathas were flaky and slightly crunchy, but they had too much oil. They should consider using less oil.
The handi kebab was kinda average. It was also quite oily. The amount they served was good enough for two people. However, I feel the quality of this dish has gone down a bit since the last time I visited this place.
The phirni was, probably, the nicest dish of the afternoon. It was just the right amount of sweet.
I understand that the quality of the food goes down during pujo in most restaurants in the city. Having said that, we need to consider the...
Read moreWe ordered food by directly calling them and the experience was simply put, extremely pathetic! The person who was coordinating the delivery was extremely insensitive and rude. When my food was not getting delivered on time, he behaved extremely harshly with me and said that the food would not be delivered at all, because it was raining heavily and the restaurant is closing down. The surprising fact is that the rains had completely stopped in the area atleast 15 minutes before he said that to me. On trying to talk more, requesting them politely to deliver the order on time, he senselessly and very impolitely disconnected the call after lying about the current weather condition repeatedly. We are a very frequent and old customer of Aminia and this kind of communication with customers is highly unnaceptable and impolite. Please improve this behaviour and also give the person coordinating deliveries a good lesson on how to talk to customers, if you want to retain a...
