The Chaiwala — Restaurant in Kolkata

Have been visiting Chaiwala since 2017 regularly, but it's sad to see what it has come down to. One of the two lady servers, is such bad mannered, ill behaved lady, she should not be in any hospitality service. She asked us, a group of 3 to take a cramped up table which is suitable for 2 person, inspite of 4 seater tables being empty. She refused to switch on the AC, didn't even serve water. Continued to argue with us, kept eavesdropping to whatever we were saying, she was replying to things we were saying amongst ourselves. She was mostly interested to argue with us. She let others take the table which we wanted but told us the section is closed. On confronting she said we should find the OWNER's number on Google and talk to him. Food is pathetic, we took chicken fingers and it was stale and hardly had any chicken or flavour. The watermelon iced tea was good, but lemon & passion fruit ice tea was simply bitter and lacked any taste. We should have left, our mistake was to stay back because Chaiwala once was our go to place, it's sad to see it's condition now, chaiwala always had well behaved servers, it's appaling to see that they are now hiring such unprofessional personnel who has zero knowledge about the service or hospitality industry. Beginning from the ambience and food to the staff behaviour, the cafe is at its best. The place has a perfect aesthetic decor with soothing vibes of a cafeteria. The hospitality is well managed and the staffs are were courteous. Everything is kept unique and adds to the positive rating of this place. I'm in love with this cafe. The beverages are amazing. They have the perfect sweetness and tangy flavour. The snacks and dishes are delicious. Noteworthy to say the serving style is splendid and the food presentation is alluring. Proper hygiene is maintained and the place is sanitized. The staffs were wearing masks and gloves. Apart from these, the cost of the food is totally reasonable and tastes up to the mark✨. We ordered for honey glazed chicken BBQ wings, cheese chicken sandwich, Oreo frappe and non-virgin Mojito. They have a good music going on with cafe vibe, maintaining the decorum. You must visit this cafe if you love going to themed cafeterias. Its great for a date or a friend's meetup. Aesthetic cafe, affordable and good food! I highly recommend...

Visited this place after a year or so. In terms of decoration and seating capacity the place is still the same. They sprayed sanitizer on our clothes before letting us in, and offered contactless dining.

Since I have visited this place several times in the past, I was familiar with the menu. I ordered these following things at The Chaiwala:

Soya honey chicken wings Chicken white sauce pasta Chicken spetnaz burger Chocolate walnut pot cake

In terms of taste, they have managed to retain the deliciousness and flavour of these food items, which are my absolute favourite. However, the portion of these dishes have been reduced.

The chicken wings were comparatively smaller than the ones I had in my previous visits. Even the portion of pasta was reduced. However, they did not compromise with the taste.

The chocolate walnut pot cake and the spetnaz burger were really good. Highly recommended!

I would like the management to consider the issue regarding the portion. I'll be glad to pay a few more bucks to get the same portion which I used to...
