Misal as they call it is a spicy Dish famous in Southern Maharashtra. Typically this is taken as a breakfast or a light meal in the afternoon / evening. The ingredients of this dish are Farsan, a mixture of roasted or fried ingredients like chiwda(rice flakes), papdi(salted fried gram flour cookies),cornflakes, peanuts, roasted moth beans, dried fruits, salt and spices. To this is added a preparation of madki (moth bean) based curry which is not very thick. This is prepared using a number of spices and has a taste similar to the famous Mutton Curry in Kolhapur. In a bowl the Farsan is added and on this the madki curry to added. It is served with finely chopped onions and coriander. Slices of lemon are given as accompaniments. At Gavran you are also served a separate bowl of thick spicy masala, which you can add to the Misal as per your taste. NOTE: People who are not used to eating spicy dishes are advised to appropriately communicate to the servers to serve a slightly less spicy fare. Kolhapuri Misal is known for its splendid taste. The moment you step in, the ambience sets the tone – clean, vibrant, and welcoming. The staff is friendly and quick, making the experience even better.
Now coming to the highlight – the misal pav. It’s absolutely outstanding! Perfect balance of spice, flavor, and crunch, with that unique Kolhapuri touch that makes it unforgettable. The pav is fresh and soft, and the tari (gravy) is rich and delicious. Every bite feels authentic and satisfying.
