Do not go by the good reviews of this place. We had a really bad experience in terms of food and service. We happened to land up at Shalimar in search of good seafood and upon doing a quick research online based on reviews and ratings. But we were let down almost immediately. The order was taken in a haphazard manner and then we had to wait for more than 45 minutes for our seafood thalis. That’s the most basic thing of any seafood restaurant and it took that much time. That too at peak lunch hour. The worst part is that when the food arrived, the rice and bhakri were extremely cold and the fish was burnt. We also ordered the mutton thali. The mutton was north indian style and had the same taste as the chicken tikka that we had ordered. We have visited other restaurants in Alibaug like Sanman and Fulora and trust me, they are 100 times better in terms of taste and service. I was surprised Shalimar has a better rating than them. We called them in advance to book a table for a family of 8 and they kept the tables ready for us, joined together when we arrived. It was so pleasant to see this kind of hospitality even in a small restaurant like this.

The waiters were prompt, they were also patient in explaining the items to us when we asked over and over and took a while to decide what to order.

Now coming to the real deal, the food. This is easily the the best pocket friendly seafood I’ve eaten outside Mumbai - and I’ve been to multiple places in Maharashtra and tried seafood. I highly recommend the prawns thali and pomfret fry if you’re a seafood fan! It was served hot, the quantities were sufficient and the food came to us in a matter of minutes since we ordered.
