After the cup of Filter Kaapi from Shillong Coffee House, I moved on to the next spot. Sadly again for the 2nd time in a row it was closed. So I went to the other spot that is Homely Hut Restaurant near Madanheh in Mawlai Phudmawri.

This is a 35 year old establishment which started serving food near to the Don Bosco Museum & then shifted to Kynton Massar in 2014 & later opened this outlet in Phudmawri a few years back.

I remember going to the 1st restaurant & really liking the warm wooden ambience. The owner who started this place was the brother of Kong Clarabel Rynjah, popularly known as Kong Lung, the proprietor of Little Chef Catering Services in Wahingdoh.

Today its run by his son. I did come here a few weeks back but it was closed due to catering duties. So I'm back here today to try out the only Khasi dish in this big Chinese menu, the Jastem Dohkhleh.

I was glad they had a half portion as well as I was slowly getting full & I still wanted to try out other places.

The order came within 10mins. I also asked for a cup of ginger tea as I was starting to have a sore throat. The owner professionally paid attention to my request with a smile.

The plating was unique & so pretty. Now you won't believe it, but this is my 1st time eating Dohkhleh sniang. Yes, keep on laughing. But I was surprised that it was so soft & gelatinous & tasty especially with the Jastem - the rice had a fond & familiar aroma to it & was cooked perfectly. The half portion was more like a full portion to me & it came with freshly fried fries, salad & a chilli & pudina chutney. The pudina chutney elevated the flavors even more.

Overall I enjoyed the food & the experience & this visit was totally worth it.
