It all started with a simple craving for the one thing every Bangalore Iyengar Bakery is known for—their rava cake. My dad brought home a sponge cake instead. Now, we’re a family that takes our rava cake seriously, so within five minutes, I was back at the bakery to exchange it.
I walked in, explained the situation, and politely asked for a replacement. What I got instead was a lecture from two incredibly rude staff members. They refused to replace it, saying, “The cake is already cut into pieces.” I mean, isn’t that what happens when you buy cake? You cut it into pieces to eat it!
After going back and forth for 20 long minutes, one of them finally gave in. But here’s the kicker: instead of giving me a fresh rava cake, he handed me a parcel that looked like it had been sitting there forever—or worse, returned by someone else. Suspicious, I asked how old it was. His response? “It’s from today,” said with an attitude like how dare you question me!
By now, I was done with their nonsense but still asked to see the cake before leaving. And there it was—the grand finale of this disaster: a strand of hair in the cake. I couldn’t believe it. Not only had I wasted so much time arguing with them, but the cake was also completely unhygienic.
Moral of the story? Not all Iyengar Bakeries are worth the hype. Stick to the good ones, because this experience was enough to put me off rava cake...
