My friend and I have been patrons here for years and have often enjoyed drinks. However, our recent experience has completely destroyed our trust. ​We ordered a vegetarian side dish, the Mixed Pakoda. My friend follows a strict Jain diet, and I am a vegetarian. Upon eating a piece of the cauliflower pakoda, I immediately detected a repulsive, undeniable taste of fish/non-vegetarian oil. It was clear that the vegetarian dish had been fried in oil that was heavily contaminated, likely having been used for seafood or other non-vegetarian items moments before. ​For my Jain friend, and for all strict vegetarians, this is not a minor mistake—it is a complete violation of deeply held religious and personal dietary standards. Both of us were highly distressed, and the integrity of our meal was destroyed. ​The Management Failure ​When we raised this serious issue, the waiter was honest and immediately accepted the fault, offering a sincere apology. We appreciated his professionalism. ​However, the response from the restaurant owner was appalling. The owner was extremely rude, dismissive, and refused to offer an apology for the grave cross-contamination incident. This refusal to acknowledge the seriousness of serving a non-vegetarian product to a Jain customer shows a fundamental lack of respect for customer well-being and basic religious sensitivity. ​Conclusion ​The incident raises severe questions about the basic hygiene and kitchen segregation practices at Kamal Chaya. Serving a vegetarian item that tastes explicitly of non-veg oil is a catastrophic failure of quality control and demonstrates a reckless disregard for food safety regulations. ​While the waiter handled the situation well, the owner’s rude and unapologetic stance is unacceptable. The management clearly prioritizes profit over respecting its customers’ health, diet, and faith.
