I am, inadvertently, on a Misal tasting spree. I am coming across lot of specialised Misal serving places.
This humble dish which started off as a poor man's wholesome meal has now become a hot cake item or a heart throb, so much that food festivals are organised only for Misal.
Honestly, it is a wholesome meal unto itself with all the right flavours to tiltilate the senses. The dish has proteins in the form of sprouts, potatoes provides carbohydrates, fat is provided by the oil used (sometimes used a bit generously in some places 😊)
"I Love Misal" opened their shutters on March 23rd, 2019 & specialises in Maharashtrian snacks items with a special focus on Misal.
The ambience is very basic but eye-catching. They have seating arrangement on ground level & mezzanine level. The wall near the cash counter is decorated with many utensils required in the kitchen. The wall opposite the cash counter has a mural of a Ganpati procession.
I had ordered the Special Misal which is made from moth beans or matki as it is known in Marathi. The gravy is slightly spicy but doesn't cause a heart burn later in the day. The base is made of potato vegetable, gravy with moth beans forms the body & farsan is the topping. I loved the Misal as a whole.
I also ordered the humble Batata Wada & it was indeed heartening to note that it was made freshly fried; made to order. The Wada is larger than most ones available elsewhere, it's rightly spiced & crisply fried.
The manner in which the chutney was served was very unique & innovative. The mild/creamy white coconut chutney was poured in a bowl, slightly thicker & spicier green chutney was poured over the white chutney & dry garlic chutney was sprinkled over it. One dip in the bowl will give a burst of all flavours in one go.
I also ordered a Kothimbir Wadi which seemed to be made from a combination of flours instead of only gram flour and white sesame used to a good effect on the top layer.
Green Peas Pattice was stuffed with a mixture of green peas, coconut shavings & spices. The size of the Pattice was humongous & a combination with another dish, is a complete meal by itself.
I Love Misal is a welcome change on the restaurant scene, offering Maharashtrian dishes in general but Misal in particular and they are doing a good...
