What a pleasant visit it was! Had come to Andheri, Mumbai for some work and had an hour to spare for lunch. So searched for restaurants near me on Google and found "U. S. K." - a stylish name indeed for an Udipi resturant!!
Ordered "Aam-ras puri" . Oh my! What an experience it was. It was so good that I ordered one full plate of puris extra and then ended up asking for another bowl of Aamras! Authentic stuff. Pav bhaji and vada were other dishes we tried between two of us. Everything was great. Service was excellent. The decor was very interesting too. Gave us a background of how the hotel has come up a few decades ago.. Some small town boys tasting interesting idlis by roadside shops and getting inspired to open their own little joint. And now this kind of a place!
So why 4 stars?
Because anything in this part of the city, looks dirty. So there was this typical Mumbai suburban's "smell" in the air. That day one of the hottest summer days of the season in Mumbai, so the air was pungent and even after we entered the restaurant, this smell was hanging in the air. I would have given them benefit of doubt and still rated them a 5*, but when I entered their wash room, I decided that this definitely needs to be ranked a star less. It's a pity, but hygiene is very very important for me.
Can disregard other things but not a toilet with water on the floor, dirty corners, leaky taps. Mumbai unfortunately throws up this kind of set up. I dread to think if what kind of drainage system this toilet will be connected to!!
But thankfully the food was very hygienic and the waiters, were very well trained, clean and gave good vibes.
Will definitely go to the place, if I am visiting...
Read moreI have seen people crowding during festivals even i tryout that too as this time I had gone for Dinner. People who are coming by car please note that they dont have vallet parking you have to manage by yourself, Two-wheeler is manageable you can park infront of hotel only. Yesterday night I visited, waited for 25-30 min,No chairs to sit you have to stand Youngsters can manage little bit difficult for senior citizens, yesterday crowd was too much due to Diwali, the guy who was in billing counter he saw people who are waiting from so long might be tired so he arranged some chair to sit. It is mangalorian Veg restuarant so you get some manglore special dishes but not worth it. We ordered soya chaap and mashroom ghee roast with neer dosa as starter, Soya chaap was not at all good, outer part of chaap tasted us some flavours but inside it was half done, so very disappointing Mashroom Ghee Roast was awesome but neer dosa was not at all presentable and being manglorian i know how neer dosa is , even this disappointed me. Even in main Crouse I ordered Jeera Rice & Dal makhani,Dal was tasteless. Service was very pathetic, reason being pathetic is while placing order no body is there to attend, calling them again & again no body is bothered busy in their other work, while serving Chaap waiter forget to bring Green chutney which is suppose to be served together. In main Crouse also he severed us then after 10 min guy comes with accompaniments. Had very bad experience so will never visit again but in non busy time i hope they might give good...
Read moreI want to try out a new restaurant in the Andheri locality of Mumbai and my eyes were set on this particular place called as Udupi Shree Krishna. I had a very high expectation with this particular place but I was disappointed completely. First of all the menu was not updated on Zomato and when I visited the restaurant, the prices were very much on the higher side. Yet loving the ambience and the interiors I decided to go on with my food experience. I started the meal with their Manchow soup, which I would say was not that great. I then ordered starters along with paper Sada Dosa and I was very very disappointed with the size of the paper Sada Dosa which was almost same as the Sada Dosa size in various other restaurants. The price was also on the higher side to be frank. It tasted good but not worth the price paying for. In starters we ordered veg crispy, Paneer chilli, Paneer pizza and their veg platter. Apart from the veg crispy which was amazing in taste all the other starters were down the mark. I was so disappointed that I decided to end my meal without having the main course considering the price I was paying and the quantity of the food that was offered. To be frank the starter portion was almost 50% of what we get in normal restaurants considering the high price I was paying at this place in the normal and not AC conditions. And I would say that you can go to this restaurant for a visit and see if you love it then you can obviously try but for me I would give one more shot before deciding upon how actually the food...
