#longReviewAlert ( 2 start for service of the waiters and the food Which i enjoyed)
After going through some great reviews we decided to book it for a get together with my parents for Sunday brunch. We specially booked it as my parents have a pallet for VEGETARIAN INDIAN cuisine. I will try to share the exact details about our experience there.
We were 4 adults and 2 kids and reached there around 1:15pm. The restaurant was exactly how we expected it to be and I felt happy for making a good choice. We were attended by one of the main servers (very few wore a black dress so I am assuming they were the head servers). He was quick and friendly. My kids are fussy eaters and only adhere to dal makhni and naam which is only what they had.
Then they started serving us starters one by one. We asked them to be little slow in serving which was taken care of. They started with tomato shorba and an accompaniment and then started the snack trail. He asked if we wanted to have any CHAACH as it was part of the set meal. We ordered four for ourselves. We were enjoying the starters and must say we were Quite satiating and tasty.
In between my son asked me to accompany him to the wash room for which I left what I was eating & the chaach in between and went with him. I came back and as I moved my glass to finish my chaach ( I already had half glass) I noticed a fly in it. I checked again and YES!! IT WAS A FLY. I had no idea if it was there in it or it fell in it while I was away. I felt sick thinking various things. I immediately told the waiter and he apologised and took the glass inside. I again told the head waiter and he apologised too. He asked me to replace it but I didn’t want it by then. I expected manager to come and talk but that didn’t happen. I didn’t want to create a scene as I was with my parents and didn’t want any spoiler for them.
Then they were about to serve us with main course. The waiter went to my mom to serve it with a LAMB DISH. I don’t know how come the waiter didn’t realise we were eating VEG and wanted the same. Anyway we passed it as he named it before serving and we noticed before he could serve it.
We finished the main course and dessert. Taste wise both were good. But by this time I was feeling quite off to actually relish them.
We asked for the bill expecting it to be for 4 adults and 1 kid(10 years) as my younger one is young. And they asked us to pay for ONLY THE ADULTS as they said kids only had dal which was true. Which I really appreciate on their part.
I asked my parents to take kids along to sit in the lobby and we paid the bill. While going out I spotted the manager and went to him to address the issue and he counter asked me if “I WAS SURE IT WAS A FLY.” Now I don’t understand this, did he not even check the drink and the waiter was in a hurry to take the drink inside, it didn’t click me that I could actually take a pic. I asked him to check with the waiter. He then said it could be due to the weather. I have never heard such a lame excuse. I was wondering then why did i book the one in five star. Anyway he had nothing much to say and I was way to disappointed with whatever happened. But I guess they could have handled the situation better. They spoiled something which otherwise could have been a...
Read moreIt was at this very hotel that 20 years back, this legendary restaurant TGKF was born, introducing the whole new concept of unlimited kababs on the table with distinct cooking methods and marinades that excited the taste buds of not only Delhiites but people from all over.
Unlike the traditional buffet in those times, TGKF made sure the guests didnt have to get up and help themselves each time, instead the guests were treated like kings with each dish served at the table at one time and that too with some smart and elegant service.
I can still recall how through word of mouth it soon became a sensation 20 years back and the talk of the town.
Well, its been 20 years since then, a lot of TGKF’s have opened up but there is always a different feel at this particular outlet.
My visit recently was after a long gap last week coinciding with their birthday celebrations and boy what a treat it was :
The meal started with their signature kababs, the Galouti Kabab with Ulte Tawe Ka Paratha.
I am a diehard fan of these kababs and can confidently say that they cant get any better than what is offered here.
Purely magical kababs that will excite your taste hormones to the core, I bet you cant just limit yourself to 1 kabab.
I am sure that Haji Mohammad Fakr-e-Alam Saheb who who made the first Galouti kabab for the NAWAB, if he was alive, would be proud of this offering at TGKF.
The Samundari Jal Pari as they have named it was a perfect example of how much better sea food can taste when marinated with good quality spices and grilled.
Just when we thought that we were already served the best part of the meal, Mutton Barra was on our way, Barra is often an indicator of how good the chef is, At TGKF the chef delicately plays with the mutton.
Marinated, skewered, roasted and charred in the Tandoor, it was tender, smoky and a delight for a carnivore like me
Then there was a Mutton boti - Boneless mutton pieces mildly spiced on the tawa wrapped in a soft rumali with a tasteful masala inside instantly reminding me of the Boti Kabab in Lucknow.
Needless to say, the Narangi Chooza was different and nice and Machhi jaituni Tikka was again a delicately preapred beauty.
The vegetarians in the family too were a happy lot with the variety of starters ranging from Kofta Kababs to Mushrooms to Chutney wale phal and not to forget the veg version of Galouti Kababs.
The mains were again a delightful combination of Dal Makhani and Dal Awadhi with Butter Chicken and Rogan Josh.
Rogan Josh was the winner here, perfectly prepared and I could a feel the flavours and aroma in MY fingers even after finishing this mutton dish.
I must compliment myself for being smart enough to leave some apace in my stomach for the desserts.
Paan Ice Cream, Phirni, Potato Halwa and Jalebi Rabdi was on offer and I opted for Paan Ice Cream and Potato Halwa.
The ambience too has changed with smart, bright and classy interiors pleasing s you as you enter this iconic restaurant.
They now have a fully stacked bar with all major International brands that one would look for.
Well, If you haven’t been to TGKF recently, then take my recommendation and indulge in a culinary treat dish after dish and I bet you will be saying “YE DIL...
