Searching for a quiet place to hangout at after busy office hours, we ended at Buon Cibo. This was an easy choice - the place offers good European style food, is located at a comfortable spot near the office, and does not have loud music banging in the background.
First look at the cafe reminded me of the Spanish tapas bars that I have seen on travel shows. The cafe is not too big - maybe has the capacity to seat 25 people at a time. The ambiance is elegantly beautiful..! Yellow lighting, the wall art and indoor plants really brighten up the place. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is pleasantly different too. The floor is covered with grass, and the tables and chairs are arranged on the grass itself. It's very calming to feel the grass under your feet while you dig into the delicious food here.
They have a pretty controlled menu which gives you a peek into Italian and Middle Eastern preparations. The primary influence seems to be Italian though, as the cafe name would suggest. We started with Garlic Bread with Mozzarella and Hot Tango Toastie. The garlic bread was tasty with a light sprinkling of dried herbs and red chili flakes, but could have been a tad punchier with the garlic flavour. The hot toastie, an open faced sandwich, was just as expected - crusty bread underneath with a pile of veggies like mushrooms, pickled onions, jalapenos and cheese on top. The bread could hold it's structure well, and the veggies were not overcooked. They have some additional condiments on the table here like Tabasco sauce, a chili oil, dried herbs and chili flakes. The chili oil was my favourite among them. It's smoky flavour paired very well with the toastie - highly recommended!. We moved on to the Stile Capo Aglio Olio pasta for main course. The pasta (fusili) was well flavoured with basil pesto, paprika, olive oil and fresh basil leaves. It was a delight to dig into this preparation. The one thing missing from this pasta dish was a lightly toasted bread to mop up the remaining olive oil on our plate. They do have a desserts menu (however small) for people with a sweet tooth like me. We ordered the Choco Lava Sundae for dessert. The gooey chocolate cake paired with Vanilla ice cream was a perfect sweet ending to our meal..!
Overall, we had a really pleasant experience here. The owner is very friendly and he kept checking on us occasionally. This is a small gesture, but it makes the diners feel welcome and satisfied. I would love to visit here again very soon to explore more of their menu. There's a couple of items like pizzas and risotto on their menu that caught my eye, and I can't wait to try them...
