A Disheartening Culinary Experience at The Kaku.
Date of Visit: 23 Dec 2023
As a fervent enthusiast of diverse cuisines, it pains me deeply to write this review. My recent visit to Kaku was not just underwhelming; it was a series of culinary misadventures that left me and my companions crestfallen.
Cocktails: A Misnomer We commenced our meal with high hopes, ordering their much-touted piña colada and mojito. To our dismay, these cocktails were a shadow of what one would expect. Lacking the fundamental kick of alcohol, they tasted bland and uninspired.
Lunch: A Parade of Disappointments Our hopes of redemption turned to despair as we sampled their lunch offerings. The Marwar Kaleji, Jungli Maas, and Laal Maas - dishes that should exude the richness of Indian cuisine - were nothing short of disastrous. The flavors were not just off-balance but hopelessly pathetic. Each dish was served cold, a culinary sin hard to forgive. The mutton in the dishes was rubbery, indicating either poor quality ingredients or incorrect cooking methods.
The nadir of this experience was the Laal Maas. When I politely brought its underwhelming taste to the staff's attention, expecting a professional response, I was met with aggression. As a cook myself, I explained the flaws - bitter gravy and undercooked meat - but it was a struggle to be heard.
A Feeble Attempt at Rectification The staff eventually offered Chicken Curry as a replacement, a gesture I initially appreciated. Yet, this too was a letdown. The chicken tasted stale, and its texture was reminiscent of chewing on rubber.
Service: The Final Straw The staff's demeanor was inexcusably arrogant and rude, further tarnishing the experience. The lack of basic amenities like water on the table was baffling, especially considering the hefty sum of over ₹5000 we spent.
One Solitary Redeeming Feature The only aspect worthy of appreciation was the restaurant's ambiance and view. It's a tragedy that such a setting is marred by subpar culinary standards and poor service.
Enclosed: Photographic Evidence Attached are the photos of the meals we endured, a visual testament to this regrettable experience.
In conclusion, kaku was a profound disappointment. It is a classic case of a restaurant resting on the laurels of its location, utterly neglecting the essence of hospitality and culinary artistry. I write this review in the hope that it serves as constructive feedback for the establishment to improve. As of now, I cannot in good conscience recommend this...
Read moreIf I could give 0 stars, I would have definitely given. Pathetic management, please don’t be fooled by the reviews. I went there for dinner on 30th December 2023 based on these so called great reviews and had the worst experience. So here’s what happened; we first sat on a table by ourselves as there was no one to attend, after sitting down for like 5-7 mins, an attendant came and asked us to shift to other table, which was fine by us. After sitting there for a while another guy came and said that the following table has a ₹2000/- cover charge and when we said we weren’t informed about this earlier before moving us to another table, he simply said, “I DID NOT ASK YOU TO MOVE HERE”. We were not keen on paying as till the time this happened 20-30 mins passed and nobody even took our order or served us water. On asking again and again, he got us a table and the family who was already shown that table was asked to get up. Then also we waited for almost 15-20 mins and nobody came to clean our table and take our order. Being fed up by this behaviour of the staff and management we just got up and left and offered the table to the family that was asked to get up for us and even they complained about this shameful and unprofessional behaviour of the staff. Also, they informed they were asked to move to the charged table and when we said they are charging ₹2000/- for the said table, they replied they too were not informed beforehand and rather got to know from us.
While we were there we saw, there were many tables that were ready to order but no one attended them. I simply want to say, if you cannot manage a crowd and give them a table please don’t open a restaurant. PATHETIC EXPERIENCE and...
Read moreWorst experience ever from New Year eve "party". All I recommend is to stay far away from these cheaters! We've been there personally to confirm what the price of the night includes. They offered "gala dinner, live bar, live DJ music, cultural & folk events (dance-music show), bonfire, massive fireworks display and show and many more". We've been promised to get starters, main course, desserts and drinks, including hot drinks, in price. The program was supposed to last from 7pm till 1am. In fact all this time we were sitting with empty table waiting for nothing, starter was late, no hot drinks, even hot water was continuously refused while we were freezing and asked for it many times. In the meantime they tried to force us to change the table we occupied just to give nice space for group of people who were buying much alcohol. Main course, with cold rice, was served after 10pm after many complaints from hungry people. No promised desserts. There was NO any folk music & dance show, NO DJ as well, only some pagal playing random songs from phone, never whole, changing in the middle of each song. Suddenly 3 guys appeared, who seemed to be caught from the street and forced to sing karaoke, it was shame and disaster, so they've been kicked out after few minutes. Massive fireworks show we could watch maybe from world news in own phone, and few single ones from far, over the fort, coz for sure not from restaurant. They stole the money giving fake offer, in fact offering only live bar to earn more. Biggest disappointment of Jaisalmer, food and service below acceptance. I don't recommend to anyone this...
