Hajiyaar Biryani at Pallavaram offers an interesting alternative for those looking to switch things up from the famous Ya Mohideen Biryani. While Ya Mohideen has garnered a massive fanbase over the years for its consistency and signature taste, Hajiyaar brings a slightly different experience to the table—whether for better or worse may depend on your preferences.
The biryani here carries a distinct flavor, with the spices and rice cooked to perfection, but there's an undeniable shortfall when it comes to the quantity and quality of meat. I paid ₹180 for a chicken biryani, which, by local standards, felt a bit on the higher side. The issue I noticed was that the portion of chicken was rather small, and it didn’t quite live up to the price tag. Most of the meal felt like eating flavored rice with just a hint of chicken. This is a stark contrast to what one would expect from places like Ya Mohideen, where the meat-to-rice ratio is more generous and fulfilling.
That said, the rice at Hajiyaar is aromatic and well-spiced, which makes it enjoyable if you’re someone who appreciates the art of cooking flavorful rice. However, biryani, as most enthusiasts would agree, is more than just the rice—it’s the combination of tender, juicy meat, and the overall balance of flavors that elevates the dish. In this department, Hajiyaar Biryani falls a bit short.
If you're someone who’s keen on exploring different tastes, and you want to step away from Ya Mohideen Biryani’s version once in a while, Hajiyaar Biryani could be worth a try. However, the steep pricing for what is mostly rice may leave you wanting more, especially when you consider the competition.
In summary, Hajiyaar Biryani at Pallavaram is good, but it does have its shortcomings. The flavor is there, but the value for money might not meet everyone's expectations, especially for those accustomed to the more generous servings at nearby establishments like Ya Mohideen. If you're in the mood for something a little different and don't mind paying a bit extra for a more rice-heavy biryani, it might just be...
Read morePallavaram though known for many things its mostly known for one thing all across chennai...Its Yaa Mohaideen Biryani...and when a new biryani outlet opened in the same street it definitely will gather attention and that's how Hajiyaar biryani came into my radar...opened around 2 months back by a Engg Grad and as said this is located on the Church road next to chellamani on the same lane as the old Yaa Mohaideen biryani...The Parking is roadside and pretty limited...
The ambiance is really good here for a quick dine in outlet with neat and well maintained dining area..the seating area can seat around 25 ppl and is quite spacious too...The service is quick and prompt with less waiting time..servers are really efficient and get the job done very well...
Items ordered and given below is my take on them...
Mutton Soup(rs20) : We definitely get more than what we pay for..Peppery, spicy and lipsmackingly good..The couple of cubes of meat were definitely added advantage here..completely worth it..
Chicken 65 (rs100) : Juicy and tender pieces of chicken that were well marinated in more of a pakoda kind of masala..but taste wise they were really good and even all through..
Chicken Biryani 1/4(rs100) : A perfect Dum Biryani with wonderful aroma and some brilliant flavors..The Light smoky effect from the Dum was pretty evident and was the icing on the cake..The meat had some good taste and was well cooked too..
First up to open a biryani place in the same lane as yaa mohaideen needs real guts and i salute them for that..But also serving some good food with added advantage of clean dining space really works in their favor..definitely an outlet worth checking out in pallavaram and i see them as an worthy...
Read moreAuthentic Bhai Style Biryani with a Touch of Nostalgia
Visited Hajiyaar Biryani in Pallavaram and tried their mutton biryani and chicken pakoda. Here's my detailed experience:
Mutton Biryani: The flavor instantly reminded me of the traditional marriage-style Bhai biryani, which is a nostalgic treat. The rice was aromatic, the mutton was tender, and the seasoning was on point. However, it was a bit oily, which might not suit everyone’s preference. Still, the taste made up for it, and I’d recommend it to anyone craving authentic, traditional biryani.
Chicken Pakoda: The pakoda was boneless and had a nice texture, but it lacked salt and spice, which made it feel slightly bland. With a little adjustment in seasoning, it could be a standout dish.
Ambience: The ambience was okay-okay, nothing fancy, but functional for a casual dining experience.
Service: The service was slow during crowded hours, which is understandable but could use improvement to enhance the dining experience.
Overall Rating:
Taste: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)
Ambience: ⭐⭐⭐ (3/5)
Service: ⭐⭐⭐ (3/5)
Final Thoughts: I liked the food overall, and it’s worth trying at least once, especially for the biryani’s nostalgic flavor. If you’re in Pallavaram and want to try authentic Bhai-style biryani, Hajiyaar is a good option. Just be prepared for a bit of waiting...
