I hope this message finds you well. My name is Justin, and I am writing to formally bring to your attention a deeply disappointing and unprofessional experience I had at your Nara Peta, Chennai outlet on the 30th of May 2025, around 12:20 AM.
While traveling with my family from Chennai to Bangalore by car, we decided to stop at your outlet as my wife and our six-month-old twin babies were hungry. I entered the store alone to place an order while my family waited in the car. I ordered two McChicken Meals, which include burgers, fries, and a soft drink.
Shortly after completing the payment, I realized that I had mistakenly not requested a milkshake (or crusher) in place of one of the soft drinks, as my wife had originally wanted. I immediately informed the cashier and requested to make the change, offering to pay the price difference. However, the cashier refused the request without hesitation, stating it was not possible since the mistake was on my part.
I attempted to explain politely and asked for a supervisor or manager. Unfortunately, the manager who attended to me maintained the same dismissive and arrogant attitude. I was told once again that since the mistake was mine, no changes would be made, even if I was willing to pay for the adjustment. The lack of flexibility and the tone in which the response was delivered were both extremely disappointing and unprofessional.
In an effort to resolve the issue, I requested that one meal be cancelled and refunded, and that I only retain one McChicken Meal. This was initially refused, but eventually the manager processed the refund reluctantly. During this process, I also noticed that the fries were being packed incorrectly, and when I pointed out that one of the meals should include cheesy fries, the packer threw the fries into a bin in a visibly disrespectful manner, as though I was being unreasonable or asking for something I hadn’t paid for.
When I calmly asked the staff to be more respectful in their tone and manner, the situation escalated. Several employees—including the manager and even a cleaning staff member—began raising their voices at me, telling me to “behave” and creating an extremely uncomfortable and confrontational environment.
As a long-time customer who has always appreciated McDonald’s for its consistency and customer-first approach, I was truly shocked by the behavior displayed at this outlet. I understand that mistakes happen, even on the customer’s part, but it is the responsibility of the staff to handle such situations professionally, with patience and courtesy, especially when the customer is being reasonable and cooperative.
This experience left a lasting negative impression, and I strongly urge your team to review the conduct of the staff at this location, particularly the manager on duty that night. I also request that McDonald’s reinforce customer service training, focusing on respect, empathy, and flexibility in resolving minor order issues.
