Swad Thali
This is a modest eatery off the busy Gokhale Road and can be approached from that road or via MG Road. Being on a old road it has very limited parking space around it. It caters Maharastrian fare and though has the name thali in it also serves snacks. Don't expect anything fancy in the restaurant be it the decor, ambience, menu card, service or the food. The cash counter is at rhe entrance and at a lower level. They display s snacks and sweets there for sale. They also sell cooking ingredients and condiments. The dining area is at a height and has laminate topped tables and rexine covered seating. They have typical Maharstrian snacks and those are served at meal time too. The thalis come in variants with one that serves all menu items inluding sweets priced at three hundred. The regular thali is one hundred and seventy rupees. They also have thali with just polis or rice with subzis and dal. The regular thali has chapathis which are soft and slightly sweet. Sides include a salad, pickle and papad. They serve a vegetable dish with one made of pulses. They serve food not too spicy or oily. Rice and dal make up the regular thali. One can also order Maharastrian sweets. We went there twice close to 3 pm when they close for lunch but were served both times without fuss. For a simple Maharastrian thali they are the one to go to. Their prices are reasonable. Based on their popularity they have a take away outlet at Vasanth Vihar where too one can dine in using the limited...

Read moreHealthy, hygenic, value for money & brilliantly tasty are some of the words I would use to describe "Swad", an amazingly affordable & friendly place in a "not so happening" area of Thane..B-cabin is the name of the area that can also be called as " Bramhanwadi" given the confluence of the Brahmin community there. Over the last ten years they have evolved or renovated the place to give it a somewhat contemporary look otherwise it is still a bang for the buck kinda spot the very good air-conditioning notwithstanding. What you get here is a vegetarian Thali that has a wholesome & a deliciously home cooked food. One can also order from a limited a la carte menu aside of few lip smacking snacks , Maharashtrian fare.. like the ubiquitous Batata wada, Sabudana wada etc. They have recently added to their menu an entirely new column of Chinese veg dishes that I haven't tried out yet. I just love them for their, plain , simple , no frills approach & brilliantly...
