"VERY NICE MISAL"
While I am impressed with the flavour, texture and quality of the Suruchi’s MIsal, I would not like to jump the gun and proclaim it to be better than Mamledar Misal; it’s too early for it. Mamledar has been around for donkey’s years and has maintained the taste, which is till date ratified by the serpentine crowds outside it whereas Suruchi has been around since only 2 years. I surely would like to state that this place is hot on its heels to Mamledar Misal as a competitor and will surely make some Mamledar loyalists turn traitors.
This a hole-in-the-wall type of eatery. One small shop floor triples as kitchen, dining area and storage / cleaning area. They have a single long table with 4 plastic chairs on either side which you have to occupy after waiting for your turn. The ambience is far from good but it’s clean nonetheless. They have put up their ingredient list of the 3 types of Misal that they serve. The moment you are seated, they place a plate with 2 Pav, finely chopped onions and a slice a lemon.
After placing the above of my table, the server looked at me, waiting for an order. Sensing it was my first time, he asked me what I would prefer to have; mild, medium or spicy. I decided to play safe and ordered for a medium spicy one.
They serve you 3 types of Misal’s; Kolhapuri Misal which has potatoes, green sprouts, onion-garlic masala, chiwda made from beaten rice [poha] and fine sev, Puneri MIsal is a mixture of 5 lentils, potatoes, sev and chiwda and Suruchi Special Misal which has boiled green peas, potatoes, gathia and sev.
The Suruchi Special Misal has home-made masala which is their trade secret. Puneri MIsal has typical black Goda masala which is borrowed from the kitchens of Bramhim household.
The Misal is served with 3 levels of fieriness; Mild, Medium and Spicy. The levels of spiciness are true to the last word. I had a Medium Suruchi Special Misal and had a slight running nose once I was done and the temperature levels in my stomach had gone up a notch. Hence be careful if you are going to order a Spicy Misal, it will ring the fire alarm in every pore of your body.
The notable thing was that the gravy of the MIsal has been cooked on charcoal fired sigree and placed on the sigree to keep it hot. The gravy was thick unlike the watery gravy served at most Misal serving restaurants; a unique offering which makes eating with a Pav more enjoyable. The Pav absorbs the gravy well and retains it on account of its viscosity.
Another speciality is their Batata Wada which is served hot every time you order. They fry it fresh for you even you order for a single. The Wada is soft on the inside with a seasoning of green coriander, crushed garlic and mushy potatoes. This is fried to perfection giving it that golden yellow halo. The outer coating isn’t very crisp but nice as a whole package. It’s served with seemingly home-made garlic chutney which was evident from the fine flavour.
I shelled out Rs.50 for a Suruchi Special Misal Pav and a single Wada. Though I was tempted to try out another variety of their Misal but held back for another time.
This new kid on the block is fast gaining popularity on the virtue of its taste and flavour. If they are able to sustain, maintain and deliver consistently on their strength then they will surely wrest a sizeable set of followers.
This eatery has its weekly holiday on Monday and every other day it’s open from 10 am to 3 pm to 5.30 pm to 8 pm.

these lines had lapsed from my active memory for a moment & I happened to ask Suyog for directions to reach this place. He was grateful enough to help with it.

Read moreThis Misal is unlike any other you’ve ever had - it doesn’t choke your senses because of extreme spice, but in fact it reveals different tastes the more you enjoy it. Suruchi Misal, Thane's very special, a well-known now. Unlike a lot of the regular Misals you would've had elsewhere, this is very very different. They say it's very much tastes homemade, sweet and spicy, which is true to their words. You can actually taste the sweetness from the Misal. From my childhood days to now, mamledar’s misal has remained my most favorite misal. But Suruchi’s unique taste of spicy, tangy and tiny bit sweetness, - you don’t find anywhere else. It is still a small hole-in-the-wall kind of shop with seating of dozen people. You find people waiting for half hour to get in on some days. We tried Kolhapuri and Suruchi Special flavors and loved the taste of Suruchi Special. They have two levels of spiciness. One should try medium if trying for first time. We also tried sabudana kichadi, taak and pineapple sheera. All of them were matching the quality and taste. Authentic taste. The ambiance is cool & cozy. They serve six different types of misal’s under one roof. Their Kharvas and Piyush are must-try dishes. The restaurant is pocket friendly, and delivers authentic taste with extra satisfaction. They have an superb ambience, vibe and well maintained place. There misal served is beyond words and expression it's just an emotion to the great food it taste.
