I am a regular to the place. Earlier, the experience at Ama used to be mostly consistent. It had its strengths and weakness. Food was never 5 star but it was 3.5-4 star. It felt value for money. Ambience was nice and continues to be so. However, the food quality and taste has deteriorated drastically in the last few months/weeks. It feels like the chef has changed.
The pesto sauce pasta we ordered was actually pasta in pesto-flavoured white sauce. The sauce was green/ish yes, but it was heavy and creamy. Not how Pesto sauce is supposed to be, which is pesto/chutney made with basically basil, nuts and oil. Cream is not added to it. The pasta was poorly seasoned. While it looked presentable, it felt tasteless.
The bbq pulled focaccia sandwich was okay, but the sauce had a strange neon orange glow and looked highly unappetising. It looked like it had added colouring in it. (Picture attached in which the sauce looks less neon than it did irl).
The last time I was there, the french toast which I used to order regularly, which used to be one of the best FTs I had eaten anywhere, wasn’t the same anymore. It’s lighter, smaller now, unable to hold the egginess. It used to be thicker and denser earlier, made with bread with a proper texture. It could hold its shape. Authentic french toast is recommended to be made with dried oldish bread, so that it can absorb the egg milk mixture and have a nice custardy heavy texture that gives a good mouth feel. Now it’s average and airy in its mouth feel, shrivelled around the edges, gone flat on the plate on its way to the table—far from the old french toast.
Service at Ama is never a highlight. While the staff is always polite, there is a bit of confusion in the air always. For example, the food has never been delayed for us. Or no wrong orders were taken. But this time, the issue was entirely opposite. This time the waiter told us on his own accord (without asking) while taking our order that the order would take 30-35 minutes to arrive. We assumed the kitchen may be short-staffed. I was terribly hungry so I left the premises to take a call to distract myself (while the rest of the guests in our party remained seated) accordingly. But the food arrived in 15 minutes flat. It wasn’t the end of the world for me. But this is an example of some kind of confusion always being there.
Despite its issues, the place overall would always feel like a value for money deal. The ambience used to be good, the food used to be above average. It offered more good than bad. However, with the sudden deterioration in the food quality and taste, the balance has tipped on the side in of the negative.
Would really appreciate it if the management took notice of this feedback. We appreciate having good cafés in town, and hope we continue giving business to them.

Read moreA taste of Bliss: Ama Cafe, Dehradun
In the heart of Dehradun lies a sanctuary for both coffee connoisseurs and food enthusiasts alike - Ama Cafe. Nestled amidst the serene surroundings, this quaint establishment offers not just meals, but an experience that lingers in the heart.
As the day was winding down, our team decided to conclude our shooting ritual with a visit to Ama Cafe. Stepping into the cozy enclave, we were greeted with an ambiance that felt like a warm embrace. The rustic charm of the interiors, adorned with vibrant artwork and a collection of books, immediately set the tone for a memorable evening.
Our first order of business was, naturally, the coffee. Ama Cafe takes pride in their brew, and rightly so. The aroma that wafted through the air as our cups were served was nothing short of intoxicating. Each sip was an orchestra of flavors - rich, bold, and undeniably satisfying. It was as if the coffee beans themselves whispered secrets of distant lands into our eager ears.
To complement the heavenly brew, Ama Cafe presented us with plates that held nothing short of pure joy. The menu boasted an array of delectable delights, each dish a testament to the culinary prowess of the chefs. From savory to sweet, every morsel was crafted with love and attention to detail. The happy food indeed lived up to its name, leaving our taste buds dancing in delight.
The highlight of our evening, however, wasn't just the exceptional fare. It was the experience of sharing this meal together, as a team. Laughter echoed off the walls, stories were exchanged, and bonds were strengthened. Ama Cafe became more than just a dining spot; it became the backdrop to a moment of camaraderie that we'll cherish forever.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow across the cafe, we couldn't help but feel grateful for stumbling upon this hidden gem. The experience was akin to finding a cherished page in the book of our journey - a bookmark that we'll return to time and time again.
Ama Cafe doesn't just serve food and coffee; it serves moments of pure, unadulterated happiness. It encapsulates the essence of Dehradun - a town that seamlessly blends tranquility with vibrancy. It's a place where strangers become friends and where every cup of coffee tells a story.
In a world that often rushes by in a blur, Ama Cafe is a sanctuary where time slows down, allowing you to savor every sip and every bite. It's a place where memories are made, and where the simple act of sharing a meal becomes an occasion to remember.
If you find yourself in Dehradun, do yourself a favor and pay a visit to Ama Cafe. Allow yourself to be enveloped in the warmth, indulge in the happy food, and let the coffee be the soundtrack to your moment of bliss. Trust me, it's an experience you won't...
Read moreI believe the USP for Ama Cafe this time would be their interiors!
Food-wise, even though the menu is quiet incorporative of 'cool-trendy' things that everybody expects to post on Instagram, the taste and value for money doesn't really live upto it, unfortunately!
I had the opportunity to visit them twice within a week's time and both the times, the service staff was very active with their hospitality and warmth.
Now what ruined the experience for me was the waiting time of 20-25 mins (during both my visits) and then being given a table for co-sharing, which almost upsets the privacy. However, I'd say, the interiors and aura are somethings you should be visiting this place for! Classic to Ama's theme, the place smells of coffee's, concrete and bakery goods and has an overtly raw feel to it! 🤤
Now talking of food, thing's I'd reccomend to you would be their Grilled Chicken Platter (A very decent steak served with jus and veggies, however the mashed potatos were pretty bland), their classic Banoffee Pie (Now now now, this one is definitely much neately put together and has the right balance of layers and thus flavours, unlike the alternate place's banoffee which includes more of whipped cream than the dessert itself, hence kudos to them for hitting the right recipe) , third, the Thimphu cheesecake (taste's so good, organic and soft, totally a fan of it) and lastly the French Toasts (a pretty wholesome order, but I'm so confused about the fresh fruits like papayas and watermelons being served with it, I believe they can shift to alternative fruits thay go better with breakfasty goods!
Secondly, Things that were above average were their Java Chip Frappe & Bbq Chicken Sandwiches! So totally worth a try!
Now coming to things I'd not reccomend would be their Boba Tea, Lemon Ice Tea, Lava Cheesy Chicken Burger & Cold Brews. Totally not a fan of any, you ask why?
The Boba Tea and Ice Tea tasted very artificial, thanks to the syrup that they're using to flavour their drinks! The chicken burger was super salty owing to the fact that the patty in itself had a lot of salt which was over dozed with salted Cheddar Sauce that they pour over it! Lastly, the Cold Brew took me out, it was super watery and milky and lacked flavours of a cold brew.
However, would I give this place a second shot? Definitely! But honestly, it'll only be to give the menu a second try and majorly because of the vibe that the place offers as a whole!
Hoping to have a slightly better experience next time which quiet meets the expectations I have from them!
