Honest Review: Cafe De Piccolo Looked Cute, But Missed the Mark
As a food blogger always on the lookout for cozy café gems, Cafe De Piccolo in Dehradun came highly recommended.
In a quaint corner of Rajpur road, close to my hotel, its European-style charm and snug ambiance make it a tempting stop, especially for those final hours before heading to the airport.
I dropped in on my last morning in Dehradun, after oversleeping and missing my hotel breakfast.
The café's calm vibe felt like a hug, and the staff was kind enough to suggest their avocado toast, which turned out to be the highlight of my visit. Fresh, well-balanced, and portioned and plated beautifully — it's easily one of the better ones I've had.
But beyond the food, the experience was uneven..
The place gets busy quickly, and while the staff is polite, they seemed distracted and stretched thin. The biggest downside? No Wi-Fi, poor phone signal, and zero flexibility around it. I was told "sorry we don't have Wi-Fi," and if I needed network to pay my bill, I should walk out of the main door. Not exactly the warm, customer-friendly experience one hopes for — especially in a café setting where people may want to work or connect.
Tables are placed quite close together, so while it’s cozy, the space can feel a bit cramped during peak hours.
The coffee was another letdown. I tried their 3B Spice Latte - interesting name, but the drink lacked character and tasted mediocre good with hints of nutmeg and cinnamon. Overpriced, slightly underwhelming, and leaning heavily on its aesthetic more than actual flavor.
Overall, Premium pricing for a city like Dehradun feels a bit much. coffee here is priced like Starbucks, and I’m not quite sure why. This place really brewed up some...
Read moreI don’t usually write reviews, but my experience at Café de Piccolo left me so hurt and disappointed that I feel compelled to share it. I visited the café with a close friend, excited to spend some quality time together. The ambiance initially felt cozy and inviting, but what followed completely shattered that impression. After placing our order, we were served our coffee and were waiting patiently for the lasagna. To our shock, a staff member approached us and asked us to leave, claiming there was a waiting line outside. Despite explaining that we were still waiting for our food, the request made us feel so unwanted almost as if we didn’t belong there. As if that wasn’t hurtful enough, another staff member approached us not once, but twice, telling us to “sit professionally.” We were already sitting properly, simply talking and enjoying our coffee. We weren’t doing anything inappropriate, and yet we were singled out and humiliated. What made this even worse was seeing another table where a couple was openly kissing and engaging in PDA, and yet, no one said a word to them.I don’t know why we were treated this way, but it felt so unfair, so targeted, and so deeply hurtful. My friend and I , we were just two people trying to enjoy a peaceful meal together. Their actions made me feel judged and uncomfortable, to the point where I decided to leave without even eating the lasagna I was so excited about. This experience didn’t just ruin my day , it left me with a lingering sense of sadness. A café is supposed to be a place where you feel welcome and comfortable, but I left Café de Piccolo feeling the exact opposite. I hope they seriously reflect on how their staff's actions impact their customers because no one deserves to be treated the...
