I visited Doma's cafe today for the third time in the past one year. The four of us went for lunch. It was a 25min wait but since my earlier experiences were good, we waited. I met a couple on my way to Doma's and they strongly advised us against eating there saying the food quality is bad but I dismissed their feedback.
This is what my experience was like this time. I am a vegetarian and despite clearly mentioning it, I was served the chicken soup. After taking 3 spoons I realised it is non veg and then it was replaced. We ordered 4 simple dishes. 2 Datshi, 1 chicken fried rice and 1 pork dish. We got our first order after 45min. Only the Datshi arrived. So my kids waited while we are. After 20 min the pork dish arrived. So one kid now ate while the other waited for his food and we sar there looking at him. After repeated reminders the fried rice finally came after 1.5 hrs post ordering. The entire food was ordered promptly after sitting down!! Quality of food: the Datshi were terrible. Bland and watery with no flavour whatsoever. The pork was mostly fat!! The fried rice were below average.
But I realised that the only thing more pathetic than the service and food quality was the owner! When I gave my feedback politely to the lady who is the owner, she never once said sorry for serving chicken to a vegetarian or the delay! She kept saying "uh huh". But promptly intercepted me at the door, loudly saying "nobody has ever complained to me about the quality of food"...I told her that I have had the same dish here before and the taste and quality have gone down to which she had the audacity to say "but I saw all the plates were clean!!!" The moment I heard this remark, I knew saying anything to this sad little pathetic person is useless and bid my goodbye to the place. The truth is I left food and so did my sons despite having been raised to never leave food in the plate!
Instead of taking the feedback and improving on her quality of service and food, she chose to badger and insult me for complaining about the food quality! The quality of the place has gone down significantly and after speaking to the owner lady, I am crystal clear why!! I am never going back to this place and highly advise you to steer clear of this place too where the owner snaps at people who give her honestly feedback!...

The owner, Mr. Tashi has endowed the place pretty richly, and his thick taste in varying subjects, is pretty evident from the way he has gotten this place done. As you enter the inn, you’re welcomed into the restaurant, where you can have a light sip of your favourite drink, tired from your travel, and stare at all the interesting souvenirs from Bollywood movies, hung in friendship alongside rare imprints of old Hollywood movies, fun paintings, dreamcatchers, chimes and other such dainty pieces of art, which grant it a colourful vibe. A very interesting man in himself, Mr. Tashi is lavish with his guidance, about how you can plan your day, in and out of Landour. Since I was traveling solo, he helped me get a map of Landour at hand, explained me how I could carry on with my day, and even sent his boys twice to pick me up, when I had no commute, and got stuck up at a nature reserve and midway at a market. His staff is equally cordial. Upstairs, I’d booked a Standard Room, which was decorated as per Tibetan norms, and had traditional Tibetan design work, a vintage photograph of old Mussoorie, and a cosy little bed on the corner with colourful linen that went well with the room’s Tibetan soul. It had free WiFi, an LCD TV, a small dining table and two chairs, and a decent washroom. The food at the restaurant tasted good, I’d suggest one goes for the momos that they serve as they were very good. If you’re someone who needs Indian Food, just let Tashi know and he would arrange it for you. You can also bring in your children if you like, I guess they’d quite like the place, as other rooms even have terraces available. The place is budget friendly with all the amenities made available; just do book in advance. It’s a safe stay for a lone traveler, even if you’re a woman, and I believe it’s Tashi’s reassuring presence which makes one feel so. Would I return to this place? Yes, yes I would, most definitely, and maybe keep coming...
Read moreWe have been frequent guests at Domas and everytime we were unable to get a room there we have booked around Domas like the clif or around. Domas hospitality and the food they serve has always got us back to them.
Tat being said, this time was a rather sour experience with Domas. We were staying at clif as we could not get a room at Domas as it was sold out. On the 19th of November in the evening we had a good dinner and re-checked with the hotels staff if we glcould buy breakfast at their restaurant as the cafe at cliff was not open. The staff confirmed that we could.
Next morning the 20th my wife and myself headed to Domas for breakfast, we seated ourselves at the cafe and then came in Chef DEV. He asked us if we were staying, and I said we usually do but had to stay at the cliff as there were no rooms available. He promptly said the breakfast is only for resident guests. i agreed to what he said and told him we were not here to have a complimentary breakfast but to pay for what we ordered. He denied and said to leave.bThere were other guests seated around. I repeated myself agaun saying that we would buy breakfast and not have it for free. He denied again and said there is no breakfast for us and we need to leave. I really wonder if such rudeness should be displayed by a Hospitality staff and especially if we have booked like zillion times at a Domas.
It was disrespectful, rude and incorrect to treat someone who is paying for your food and moreover infront of other guests.
We were not there for Free meal. We were paying for your breakfast! DEV NEEDS TO BE MORE COURTEOUS.
It was a bad...
