Monastery Cafe — Restaurant in Uttarakhand

Where- Near Helipad, Shastradhara rd, Dehradun ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ Ambience-4/5: Outdoor eating is a customer magnet, especially in a place like Dehradun. @Monastery has capitalized on that, It's one of those locations where you can still get the essence of Dehradun. Picture this, it's Friday evening, and you are with your friends sitting on a terrace surrounded by the valley. To top it off you experience this breathtaking sunset. Sounds relaxing? well, that's pretty much what the ambience is about. It's a standard terrace cafe with indoor and outdoor seating but with the added benefit of the view and good quality food.

➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ Food- 4.5/5: If not ambience, go there for the food. I was surprised by what they were offering at that location. They are skilled and very professional when it comes to their food and don't make a blunder while preparing it. The menu is extensive, all the things you see here - Pasta, Dimsum platter, coolers and waffles were very well done. I would however like to elaborate on two of my favourite things from here: ◽️Kulluki sherbet- ultimate thirst quencher with basil seeds, fresh lemon juice, sugar jaggery syrup and a pinch of secret homemade salt.

◽️Chili bean chicken- a good blend of fermented LKK black bean sauce, homemade chilli paste and Chinese Hua Tua cooking wine. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ Price- Very reasonably...

During Mt Dehradun trip, I had planned to visit different cafes and based on the reviews and ratings I zeroed in Monastery Cafe for yesterday visit. I travelled almost 40mins to reach this cafe with high hopes of good food good vibes!

However, the food and beevrage we ordered were NOT upto our expectations. We ordered Alfredo pasta, waffles and mango Chia shake!

Pasta looked like it was added later to the sauce, tastes not very good. Mango shake had very less mango, it tasted bland almost. Waffle says 2 pieces in a plate, so basically it's 1 waffle broken into two pieces. It was hard and I have had tastier and softer waffles during my trip.

Like the way they have kept the cutlery and napkins in a cloth pocket. Location and view is good too.

But not really true to its name.

Infact the instrumental music played was also not very appealing. We were wishing they could just...

Nice location, good food and neat and clean. Staff is good. The main person behind it gives personalized attention to the guests, and takes customer feedback very seriously. He is a professional in the field, and you can see he is quite invested in this venture. The menu is wide enough - Indian dishes, Chinese, pasta, EXCELLENT pizza, sandwiches, burgers, and the best chole-bhature I have had in Dehradun so far. Yummy masala soft-drink. Prices are reasonable for the overall experience, not prohibitive. I would recommend you give it a try once. My husband and I love dogs and for us their super cute pet dog (a puppy, actually) is an added attraction.
