Sankalp, a name synonymous with exceptional South Indian cuisine, has earned a spot in the Guinness World Records for preparing the longest dosa—an astounding 30 feet by their chef in Mumbai. The Dehradun branch, located on the second floor of the GMS Mall, upholds this legacy with an excellent dining experience.
We sampled a variety of dishes including Masala Dosa, Plain Dosa, Super Paper Masala Dosa, Mini Idlis, Crispy Vadas, Spooky Dosa, Kesari Halwa, and Filter Coffee. But for the Vadas every dish was prepared to perfection. The dosas were super crispy without being greasy, the idlis were soft and fluffy. The Spooky Dosa, creatively stuffed with a vegetable filling, was a delightful twist.
One standout feature was the four varieties of chutney served with the meal—gunpowder chutney, a red spicy chutney, coconut chutney, and green chutney—each adding a unique burst of flavor. The Kesari Halwa was just right, not too oily or overly sweet like in many places, and the filter coffee was a rich, aromatic finish to a wonderful meal.
The staff were knowledgeable and welcoming, ensuring that we had a pleasant experience. The décor is simple yet charming with creative posters on the walls, though the view isn’t remarkable. That said, the quality of food more than makes up for it.
In conclusion, Sankalp Dehradun is a must-visit for South Indian food enthusiasts. From the crispy vadas to the flavorful chutneys, every dish is a treat. Don’t miss the complimentary paan to round off your meal with a...
Read moreHi friends, I would like to share my opinion about our visit to Sankalp Restaurant. We visited for dinner last night, it was a family visit. We stepped in the restaurant and were welcomed well, the ambience was good, ample space to gather around and the staff was also friendly.
We love South Indian food and we are always looking for options to visit restaurants who offer the same.
I ordered Malabar Parota with Kurma, one of my favourite South Indian dishes, and my wife ordered Plain Dosa and eagerly waited for our order to come. Finally, after 15-20 mins we got the items on the table. The presentation was good, the cutlery was neat and clean.
I started to have my Malabar Parota, I took the first bite and I was shocked. First the parota is too hard which should not be, second the Kurma which was given is not the original Kurma which would be served with parota, I tasted the curry and I think it had some Punjabi touch of spices.
The sambhar is also not good in taste, moreover, it doesn't have any other vegetables, only tomatoes. It seems like we were served tomato curry.
Overall, we found our first visit a waste. I would not be visiting again, however, they might have some dishes with actual South...
Read moreSankalp restaurant is unquestionably worthwhile if you enjoy South Indian food. I just visited with my family of four, and we absolutely enjoyed the paneer dosa, Hara bhara kebab, and sambhar. The paneer dosa was a highlight dish, featuring a hearty paneer filling that was expertly seasoned and prepared. The dosa itself had a nice texture and was crunchy, which together made for a delicious meal. Another standout of our meal was the Hara bhara kebab. The kebabs had a fantastic blend of spices that was just the correct amount of spicy, and they tasted absolutely delicious. They were also nicely presented. However, the sambhar that was served with the dosa was what really caught our attention. It was without a doubt one of the nicest sambhars we've ever eaten in Dehradun; it was wonderfully flavoured and balanced without being overpowering or heavy. The restaurant itself is nicely furnished and offers a warm, inviting ambiance. Throughout our meal, the staff was kind and attentive, which made for great service. In conclusion, Sankalp restaurant is a fantastic option for those seeking delectable South Indian food in Dehradun. It's worth a visit since it has delicious food, good service, and a...
