TO ANYONE, a City is known by its City-ness, but for me it's known by the Cafes that dots over. Hailing from Guwahati a big tier two city with Cafes across it's length and breadth and knowing the landmark ones like the back of my palm, again I recently explored to my delight at SILIGURI, one of my frequented Cities not lagging too behind on Cafes either.
Blessed with a business opportunity to trip Siliguri every month, I feel little comfortable to share a brief write-up on it's Cafe-scape and here I go at for an attempt.
Most of the so called good Cafes are due to their prime-centric location, so the brand builds by default, so too the footfall. But when it comes to these lot I have few little to say. Except walking in for a quick sip and bite over a chaotic music, I feel the offerings are little inorganic. So, let me not drop names here to avoid coming under their fire.
To me, a Cafe is a place where one connects emotionally thereby acting as fodder to one's Soul. The must-have hallmarks are it's overall ambience, quality of interaction, Sips and bites and most importantly the collection of Books, be it just reading or buying one. It's in this last hallmark most of the cafes lose out on completeness for being sans books.
What's there in a Cafe if one cannot get to browse, pick and read ? I am self schooled at believing a Cafe is much beyond the sit-bite-sip business. The ride begins with the eyes landing on a book of one's liking on the self and the page starts flipping. Sip turns into nectar, the bite flies a virtual Kite and conversation drives the emotion away from life's pains however short-lived it maybe.
Going by the above count, of late I've been regular by the month on a Cafe-pilgrimage at Cafe-The Twins, a Food, Event and Book joint in Methibari, off Siliguri on the Darjeeling road managed by a small team of enlightened and elegant women. I recommend- one must try experiencing the soul soothing ambience, super friendly hosts, non alcoholic wine or rum Tea, locally sourced cookies, grilled sandwiches to mention a few amongst the many and finally the range of books though limited, from the local, regional to the international, all for picks, reads and even buy.
To sum up on a smiley note, every fifth time visitor gets a complimentary Beaverage. So, see you there on one of my upcoming visits.
Tons of Love.

Read moreCafe The Twins is one of the most artistic and welcoming cafes you'll find in Siliguri. Recently, we organized Tape A Tale's open mic there, and oh god, what a beautiful feeling it was. You know, it's always the space and the vibe around you that make everything come alive, and having this cozy cafe as the address of our Ghar (open mic) was a surreal feeling. They didn't just help us manage everything but also gave us the freedom to celebrate art, stories, and poems. The owner is the sweetest person you'll find, and the food at this place will make you believe even more in the happiness that food can offer!
In the end, we are all humans building our own experiences, but that evening, 25 of us built a surreal experience altogether because of being at Cafe The Twins. What a magical place!
Siliguri people, you MUST...
