Darao pothik bor is one of the best multi cuisine restaurant near dumdum junction. The Bengali term " darao pothik bor " was coined by Michael Madhusudan Dutta in one of his famous Bengali poems whose lines are still inscribed in his tomb . It literally means asking for the attention of people passing by . Similarly the restaurant has such a grand look from outside and it ask the pedestrians to stop and try this place out. How to reach ? It's just a few minutes walk from dumdum metro station or rail station , so it is very easily accessible both via metro and train . Every bus going towards dumdum will also get you to this place. What to expect? Their hospitality is their biggest strength , they know how to treat guests . They have huge sitting capacity including both ground and first floor. Beautifully decorated place , fully air conditioned , live tv and some good music being played in the background that will surely win the heart of a true bengali . How is the food? Undoubtedly they excell in both chinese and Indian cuisine . We tried a few dishes from both of these and hardly I have anything to complain . Let's get into further details . We kicked off with the popular tandoori chicken , served in a unique way , over a small grill with burning charcoal helping the skewered chicken , cook to perfection. It was served on the table , hot . There was an infused smokiness in it along with the usual spices . The portion was great . I enjoyed every bite of it . Next I had their crispy baby corn which was again a winner in terms of both quantity and quality. Moving to the mains , we tried Kung pao chicken and paired it with mixed halka noodles . Honestly speaking nobody will provide you with such a huge quantity at this price . The mixed halka noodles had lots of chicken , prawn , egg , veggies. The Kung pao chicken as it is supposed to be had small cubes of chicken , cashew nuts ,peppers and onions stir fried . Most probably the name of this dish has been derived from the name of a late Chinese official. From the Indian section I had their special murg biryani with special dak bunglow . The biryani had two big pieces of chicken , one potato and on egg , more enough for a healthy person to satisfy his cravings if he tries it with their special dak bunglow which again comes with two chicken pieces , two mutton pieces and two eggs cooked in a rich , spicy , brown gravy . It's too heavy for one person so better be shared by two . Finishing off with their fried ice cream , which isn't easily available everywhere which is made with scoop of mango ice cream coated with breadcrumbs and deep fried. This is to be served immediately as the ice cream inside will melt . This hot and cold combination is always a show stealer. My picks would include the tandoori chicken , the special dak bunglow , Kung pao chicken and of course the fried ice cream is a must if you haven't tried it yet, this is the place where you would get it easily and at the cheapest price.

Recently I visited Darao Pothik Bor Family Restaurent , located at Dumdum !! They serve Chinese cuisine , Bengali cuisine as well as Indian cuisines also. So we were there to try out their Chinese cuisines and my experience is really mesmerizing .. In starters , we had , Starters: 🌸Hunan Fried Fish : Small and soft fish pieces are cooked in Hunan style .. 🌸Fire Chicken : You can actually feel the smoky taste while having it. 🌸Sunla Chicken : This is another regular Chinese item of chicken from here. 🌸Pan fried chilli fish : This was a bit spicy but the taste was really good. 🌸Chicken Balls in BBQ sauce : Now this one was spicy. Minced chicken are shaped into balls, fried and cooked in BBQ sauce. 🌸Chicken Drums of Heaven : Our very own chicken drums of heaven, they completely justified with the taste of the item. . Main course : 🌸Egg Wrapped Fried Rice : Regular veg fried rice presented in a thin layer of egg omlette. 🌸DBP special Egg Wrapped Noodles : This was very flavourful and also wrapped in a thin layer of egg omlette . 🌸Hakka Noodles : This had a special flavour of Kolkata style hakka chow, containing a good amount of veggies . 🌸Schezwan Rice : From its name , you can assume that this dish is spicy enough , cooked with Schezwan sauce. 🌸Kung Pao Chicken : Chicken chunks are cooked in Kung pao style and contains cashew nuts. 🌸Spicy Paradise Chicken : This one was very spicy , can be paired up with non-spicy regular fried rice. 🌸Shredded chicken in green pepper sauce : Shredded pieces of chicken chunks are cooked in white gravy , with green and red pepper. 🌸Cantonese Noodles : This is thr best item of them so far. It was lovely and tasty , the consistency was perfect and loved the taste of it. . In dessert , we tried , 🌸Hot Gulab Jamun : One jumbo sized hot gulab jamun soaked in sugar syrup with crushed pistachio all over it. It was so soft and fresh , melted in mouth in seconds. We had tried some of their mocktails as well. Which are : 🌸Virgin Mojito 🌸Kiwi Mojito 🌸Strawberry Litchi punch 🌸Chatpata cucumrita 🌸Gramite orange punch 🌸Tange mandarin kafir lime . . In these drinks , you can absolutely try the chatpata cucumrita , this was tangy and tasty..Kiwi mojito and Virgin mojito were also orderable items. For the other drinks , a bit progress is needed..!! . I specially loved the staffs here , they were so friendly and cool. Loved the food obviously , this was such a lovely experience .

Looking for a good family restaurant in Dumdum area? Then you must visit Darao Pothik Bor at least once. This family restaurant is located at 83/3 Dumdum Road, just opposite to St. Mary Orphanage & Day School, 5 minutes walking distance from Dumdum Metro. They have a huge seating capacity and they are famous for their Chinese, North Indian and Mughlai delicacies. Don't worry they are following all the health protocols to ensure our safety. You can even book tables here for parties. Heard a lot about their Chinese Delicacies so we tried their Chinese Dishes only this time. Now coming to the food we had : Starting from the mocktails were ordered. We tried Kiwi Mojito, Strawberry Litchi Punch, Black Currant Mojito, Tange Mandarin Kafle Lime, Granite Orange Punch and Chatpata Cucumrita. All the mocktails were very refreshing but I liked the Chatpata Cucumrita most. For starters we had Hunan Fried Fish, Fire Chicken, Sunla Chicken, Pan fried chilli fish, Chicken Balls in BBQ sauce, Chicken Drums of Heaven. Loved the Hunan Fried Fish as it was crispy on the outside and very soft on the inside. Don't forget to try their Fire Chicken if you are a spice lover. Chicken Balls in BBQ sauce was totally unique in taste and the BBQ sauce made meatballs extra juicy & flavourful. Chicken Drums of Heaven was super delicious here, the Schezwan sauce made the chicken more succulent. This one is highly recommended. For Main course Main Course we ordered Egg Wrapped Fried Rice, Schezwan Rice, DBP special Egg Wrapped Noodles, Hakka Noodles, Cantonese Noodles, Kung Pao Chicken, Spicy Paradise Chicken and Shredded chicken in green pepper sauce. If you ever visit this place don't forget to try their Cantonese Noodles, it was loaded with vegetables, egg and chicken and tasted delicious. Spice lovers do try their Schezwan Rice with Spicy Paradise Chicken but loved the Shredded chicken in green pepper sauce with DBP special Egg Wrapped Noodles. We ended this beautiful gastronomic journey with a Darao Pothik Bor special dessert which is Hot Gulab Jamun. This gulab jamun was very soft and delicious. Overall we had a great experience here. From quality to quantity the food was excellent. Loved the ambience and the service was prompt as well. I would love to recommend this family restaurant to everyone. Do drop here if you are looking for a perfect friendly place in Dumdum area.

"Darao Pothik Bor" a line by 19th century Bengali poet Michael Madhusudan Dutta. Taken from his poem Samadhi Lipi, this means "Stop a while, traveler!" Well, the name is indeed very interesting and meant to stop a passer-by to try their food. I paid a visit for lunch on Sasti, Durga Puja '18. Ambiance : ----------------------------- They've a small dining on the ground floor. Initial impression, neat & clean, cozy but extremely well maintained. Modern elegant touch to the dining and comfortable sittings. Staffs and Management : ------------------------------------------------------ Welcome from their staffs in a great manner wasn't expected but it was really nice of them. Waiters & waitresses were in ethnic wear, they were extremely well behaved & helpful in manner. Special Durga Puja Menu : -------------------------------------------------------- Kashmiri Pulao @ Rs. 210 (4/5): --------------------------------------------------------------- Well I haven't tried Kashmiri Pulao before, so I had no idea what it originally tastes like. But the way they served it, I liked it very much. Pink colored rice definitely looked odd, but its taste wasn't. With lots of cashew nuts and raisins it tasted very decent and sweet. Portion was good too. Mutton Roganjosh @ Rs. 395 (3/5) : ------------------------------------------------------------------- 4 medium sized Mutton pieces cooked into very thin red gravy, a pure Kashmiri delight with blend of spices. Mutton pieces were soft and well cooked but it could have been little more flavorful. Taste wise it was very average, but it didn't went well with Kashmiri Pulao. Once again quantity was great but at Rs.400 this dish was indeed very expensive. Pricing : ------------------------ One thing took my attention, where most of the restaurant charge Rs.50-90 for a MRP Rs.20 mineral water bottle, they charged only Rs.24. It was very honest of them. Total bill was Rs.695 including GST that seemed bit high to me. But the quantity of food per plate was enough for 2 people making it adjustable. Conclusion : -------------------------------- You can't get any better restaurant than DPB near Dum Dum station. This place deserves 4.5 for their 5 star service and 4 stars for food. Sadly Zomato removed rating in floating values. What so ever this place is a must visit. I'm eager to try their Biryani next time.

Darao Pothik Bor is situated at a walking distance of 4mins from DumDum Station. You can easily spot the place from the road. The restaurant is two storeyed. The ground floor is specially for their South Indian Cuisine. The first floor seating is also divided into two sections. One with the view of the road and natural lighting. And the other is slightly inside with beautiful blue lighting, best for seating at night time or dinner hours. The restaurant serves South Indian, North Indian and Chinese Dishes. I heard that their North Indian dishes are good but I wanted to try chinese that day. I opted for the Mixed Cantonese Noodles and they suggested to have dragon chicken with it. The Mixed Cantonese noodles is mostly bland but when I had it with the dragon chicken it blended so well! The dragon chicken was full of spices and perfectly combined with the cantonese noodles. Also ordered one of their Mocktails, Kukumrita. They said they make all the Mocktails from scratch using fresh ingredients. The mocktail had the perfect balance of sweet, sour and spicyness. Their Mocktails are truly unique considering the kind of twists they execute on the Mocktails. Ended the meal with (in house) Piping Hot Gulab Jamun. And Fried Ice Cream. Both were extremely good. Can't wait to come back here for the desserts! Besides the food, I would also like to mention their amazing hospitality and how they treat all their customers in the same way! You will be greeted "Namoshkar" with joined hands as soon as you enter the restaurant. And it's so beautiful! They try to serve you the best and make sure you have an amazing time there. They don't compromise on their quality or quantity. Darao Pothik Bor was mesmerising.
