Oudh 1590 - New Town — Restaurant in West Bengal

Since, the food was ordered on Swiggy I will only rate the food and not the service and atmosphere. If I visit the outlet and dine in, I will update it.

We had an office lunch party for 9 people. We ordered the items below:

Kebab Platter [serves 2] - 4

Murgh Awadhi Handi Biryani - 1

Every item on this list was finger licking good !!!

All the 3 types of Kebabs were really tasty, but Murgh Kalmi Kabab was the best for me.

Murgh Awadhi is not typical Kolkata style Biryani although it does not have any potato but it had juicy tender chicken and egg, rice quality was good. It did not have the strong aroma of Keora, Rose water. It was on the lighter side. I liked it, it was delicious.

Murgh Pardah was a very different one, the preparation was also different. It has light dough entirely covered on top of the earthen pot. It is one spicier side as the masala along with capsicum and sliced onion was mixed with rice and chicken. It was also very luscious. If someone likes a spicy Biryani he/she would love it.

Raan Biryani was also on the spicier side as my colleagues told me as I did not eat mutton.

It was a very good decision to order the Anaras Raita separately. I would insist to go for this raita for these types of spicy biryani. It was worth it. We ordered 3 and each of those would be around 250ml and 9 people finished it. The complementary ones were small in size and did not have minced pineapple and understandably so.

Phirni was the cherry on the top - Such a delicious mouth watering item, it was a complimentary gift from Swiggy. Even though it is just 1-2 spoons for everyone, the taste lingers in your mouth. Don't take my word for it, try it.

This is the first time I have tried Oudh, I heard rave reviews about it. I was a bit skeptical about the Google reviews for this outlet. But it lived up to its reputation. Even though the price was a bit on the higher side but I would definitely order...

The place is conveniently located on the new town 6 lane highway connecting to rajarhat main road, very close to Akankha more Plenty of parking area in the service road make it even more easy to access I had a reservation at 1230 however when I reached at 0100, they were hesitating to give the table even though restaurant was 70% empty They were hesitant to select the table saying that those tables were reserved even though we also had reservation They had buttons on the table to call weighter and it was asked to use that. However, I had to manually call them as no one was visiting table even after usage of that I ordered chicken tandoori full and it was tasty. However, I ordered a Run biriyani which was completely different than I expected. I had run biriyani multiple times in Abcos food plaza Salt Lake and It was very good however this run biriyani disappointed me from all perspective. I did not find any differences between this and a regular mutton biriyani The serving was in decorative bowl and serving was quick I went with Zomato discount however restaurant denied all offers in mutton , fish and seafood which is not mentioned anywhere in Zomato. Beware of this if you are trying to avail any discount. Went for dinner during the weekends during a recent trip to Kolkata during November 2024. Place is hard to find if you are unfamiliar with New Town. Has ample roadside parking which is free. Place itself is small but table was available even though it was a weekend. The table assigned was close to the kitchen door which wasn't our first preference and requested for a table on the other side as there were few ones which seemed to be free but the request was declined. Overall service has significant room for improvement, host and servers clearly lacks finesse needed for a restaurant and seemed more of a fast food joint. Drinks were delayed and had to be reminded also the host seemed to be keen on responding in hindi even when spoken to in Bengali. Not sure if it was to provide authenticate awadhi experience or disdain for the local language which seems to be common in Kolkata these days. Ordered the Galouti Kebab, paratha and Mutton Rann Biriyani, Kebab was good Biriyani was so so, portion could have been better considering the price. Overall food was OK but nothing great to write about. So brings back to question the worth with subpar service and not so great experience.
