A "Pause" That Never Ends – A Fine Example of How Not to Run a Restaurant
If you're looking for a place where time slows down—no, completely halts—Pause Bar and Kitchen is the perfect spot. I walked in at 6:30 PM, full of hope, because I was the one who made the reservation. My team trickled in one by one, but little did we know, we were about to embark on a thrilling game of Where’s the Waiter? Spoiler alert: We lost.
Our starters began arriving with the urgency of a government office. A solid 30-minute wait for the first one, and then a generous 10-minute gap between each. The main course? That’s a different saga altogether—let’s just say I could’ve marinated a dish myself in that time. And when it finally did arrive, we had the pleasure of eating it on our starter plates because apparently, plate replacement is a premium service here.
Cutlery? Non-existent. I had to take a scenic walk around the restaurant in search of a spoon and fork, and when that failed, I resorted to borrowing them from a neighboring table. Still no waiter in sight. I even performed the noble duty of clearing our starter plates myself—because at Pause, you are the service.
And then came the grand finale: a waiter miraculously appeared out of thin air—not to serve us, but to offer a free brownie in exchange for a five-star rating. A bold strategy, considering their service barely deserves a single star. Naturally, we accepted, purely for research purposes—to show the world how their rating system is built on bribery and not on service.
If you love long waits, self-service, and the thrill of scavenging for cutlery, this is your dream destination. If not, just pause before making a reservation. Or better...
Read morePause, true to its name, offers a break from the corporate grind despite being located right across from the IT parks in Perungudi. The ambiance is quite pleasant with its bar, and dim lighting, providing a nice place to unwind. The staff is friendly, and the space is comfortable.
However, the food didn’t live up to the hype. We tried a variety of dishes, including Chicken Chilly, Fries, Lotus Stem, Garlic Bread, Pizza, nachos, Pasta, mocktails, and drinks, but everything was quite average and lacked flavor. That said, the drinks were good and worth trying. If you're in the area and don’t have other options nearby, it might be worth considering for the discounts they offer through walk-ins or on Swiggy/Zomato. Otherwise, you might want to look elsewhere for a more satisfying meal.
While they have a wide menu, some items weren’t readily available. Overall, Pause is an okay spot to hang out with decent drinks and a relaxing atmosphere, but the food falls short. If you're curious, give it a try—just don’t set your...
