I like the open air concept because I get to see the hills and greenery during my visit. Also, the traditional architecture of the place is definitely bring out the rustic-traditional ambience. But, as others has already stated, the place has really limited parking space both for cars or motorcycle. Come visit before or after lunch hour for a more pleasant experience, mid-week is even better. I recommend to try their "Nasi Kastrol", " Pisang Goreng" and "Tempe Mendoan". Those menu are superb. The Nasi Kastrol is for two person or one if you are a heavy eater. The rice is so savory, you can taste the onion and it smells really nice. Perhaps the strong smell was because of the salted fish cooked with the rice. The rice bucket comes with 2 chicken, 2 tempe mendoan, 2 fried tofu, some veggies, and hot sambal. One more thing, it takes about 30-40 minutes to cook this because they cook it by order. So, don't come with an empty stomach or make sure you chow down some Pisang Goreng or Tempe Mendoan while waiting. This Pisang Goreng is also made by order that it comes hot to your table. It served with palm sugar. You can tap on the sugar for extra sweetness. The Tempe Mendoan is coming hot. Its soft and savory. You can add extra spiciness by tapping on sambal kecap/ sweet soy sauce sambal. For you who loves something warm, you should try their Ginger Drinks. You'll be amaze at how many ginger they put on your glass. Its very gingery and hot. Just the way I like it and a perfect companion when you wait that Nasi Kastrol in a cold windy Bandung air. In general, I like how they maintain to keep serving fresh dish, I mean they cook by order....
Read moreThis restaurant was one of the highest rating within Dago area. Parking lot was quite a hassle as it was located in the midst of uphill turn.
I and my family order Nasi Timbel, Pecel, Soto, Mie Tek Tek and Tahu Tempe Goreng. Services were efficient, the waiter fully comprehend their menu, so once we requested to modify some menu with vegetarian twists there were no difficulties in communication and final order.
Soto was okay, but not as rich as it looked; more of a homecooked taste, nothing special. Pecel tasted quite bland, not spicy, and its peanut sauce not too savory either. Mie tek tek was a surprise, its spiciness were close to infamous Mie Bangladesh's presentation but it seems like cooked by charcoal as it smelled quite roasted. Nasi timbel's shrimp paste sambal was a bonus out of entire bland presentation. Tempe Mendoan had too much flour and deep fried.
View was relaxing and comforting with green hill below, good place to chit chat with your loved ones. Would recommend for first timer visitor to encounter Dago hilly and chilly signature, but wouldn't come back here either if i had...
Read moreThe fried chicken, tofu, and tempeh were super tasty, with the seasoning really soaking in. The tea was nice too, and the tofu was so soft. Love the environment of the restaurant cuz it is very clean and has a great view.
But there are a few things that bothered me:
I ordered two nasi timbel, and it took forever—40 minutes to arrive—even though the place wasn’t busy. On top of that, the fried chicken was tiny, barely had any meat, even though I specifically requested the chest part. I didn’t get a detailed receipt, so I couldn’t check the tax. I was suddenly charged over 100k, but the prices should’ve added up to 94k (39k for the nasi timbel, 7k for plain tea, and 9k for iced plain tea). Maybe it’s tax, which is fine, but I’d really prefer to have the receipt. The staff? Only two of the male employees were friendly and smiled. The female staff, on the other hand, seemed...
